azoldguy March 5th, 2012, 07:05 PM I'm just saw a post on the local CL for a Squier SG. I'm not much on SG's but I thought there must be some typo (or worse) for this post. I had never heard of such a thing, but there were the pics, and it actually looked kind of cool. Does anyone have any experience with these or any information to share. Just wondering.
Thanks.
DrumBob March 5th, 2012, 08:31 PM To my knowledge, there are no SG copies made by Squier. Fender wouldn't copy a Gibson design outright in the first place. They'd be crazy to do that. Then again, Gibson almost made a low-priced Strat copy last year.
Ask to see a picture and let us see it. But I can assure you there are no blatant Squier SG copies.

Just go on Craigslist and hit the Phoenix version. There are several pictures posted. I sure don't know what to think.
purpletele March 5th, 2012, 08:41 PM They did make a version of the Guild S100 a few years ago. I'm not sure what they called it.

Google would appear to disagree...

Epiphone did make strat and tele copies for a bit in the '90s. Does anyone know if Gibson ever made those Hendrix model strat copies or not? I understand why they would make the other copies but, a Hendrix strat copy. I'm assuming that whoever is in charge of the Hendrix estate must've sold the rights to use his name?

+1
Frontier9 March 5th, 2012, 10:51 PM Looks like that Squier is patterned after the Guild S100. Fender has owned Guild since 1995, so it would make sense that they would borrow freely from Guild's designs. There was a Squier Starfire offered for a short time if I recall correctly.

yep, and there was a Dearmond version of this for a while. When Dearmond got phased out the Squires showed up.
DrumBob March 6th, 2012, 05:21 PM That copy is like a Guild S-100, not an SG.

Yeah that's been pointed out. Usually when someone says Squire SG this is what they mean though, just like when someone says Giuld SG they're usually talking about the S100.
