New Vibrochamp

I built a little Vibrochamp w/ a couple of mods:

Choke on the B+.
One-knob Tweed style tone stack.

That's about it, otherwise a stock build. It sounds real nice, I just need to find its favorite tubes (X, Y, V, 5751, etc.)

So...basically a brownface Vibrochamp? Sounds neat! How does it sound compared to a blackface?

Awesome!
Pics or it didn't happen :)
(I know that's a well worn cliche...)

It's not worth looking at guys, picture an 18W Kustom Contender with the guts all ripped out & converted to tubes.

The insides, well, let's just say I'm not a proud man.

It works and doesn't hum too much, sounds good, and growls nicely when pushed. And I'm still amazed when my tremolo circuits work, I have no idea how.

....

So it is a thing of beauty:razz:

The tremolo oscillator will not work if the tube gain gets to low, so not much point in experimenting with that tube.

Yeh, I like the 12AY7 so much but as you predicted, the tremolo doesn't work too well with it. I believe I'll switch the tone pot from a 1M to a 250k a la Princeton. Maybe that will tame it some.

Yeah but we like seeing people stepping off the well worn path. Just wait, in a day or two I will post some pics of a amp I have been working on that is a bit of an ugly duckling, part of its charm. While I do like seeing some people's amps that are a work of art that is not for me. As long as it is functional I'll spend my time on other things.

So now that you have this one done, what's next?

Just finished a big LOUD bass amp, see "bass amp build" post. I also just Blew a Tube on my Pro Reverb/Vibroverb/what have you-type amp. But that was me being careless, the speakers were connected to another amp, thus basically shorting the speaker connection. I'll be looking for yours printer. Maybe we could have an ugly build contest! With points for solder blobs!

Just found a thread on ugly builds, posted one in it. The one I am working on is not ugly enough, it has its cute side. Hope to post it soon.
