Just read somewhere a brief list of the different artists Earl Poole Ball, currently of Heybale, ( one of my favorite musicians ) played with. I knew he played for Johnny Cash for a long time and other projects, but did not realize he played piano on the legendary Byrds' Sweetheart Of The Rodeo album... Anybody has any more info on that ?
I guess that's him there...

I just looked at my copy and that's right.
I've seen him with Heybale a couple of times and he's something.

i play for earl sometimes and yes he played on sweethearts of the rodeo but also on the international submarine band and other gram parsons / flying burritos sessions...
he's also (often uncredited) on lots of other records on capitol by merle haggard, buck owens, wanda jackson etc... he came to capitol as a session player but ended up ken nelson's protege and doing major sessions and having major hits as a producer for capitol... after capitol moved him to nashville he tired of being a producer and that's when he took cash's offer to join the band...
he also made a couple of great rock and roll records in the late 50s / early 60s - under his own name and with danny ray... he was really surprised i knew his early records and i ended up finding all of them on original for him...

 Wow ! How cool ! I love his playing and singing ( Heybale with Gary as a lead singer was my favorite band to see live ) and he seems to be a sweetheart of a guy on top of everything else. My wife and I were sitting @ the Continental one Sunday night waiting for Heybale to start while they were setting up and he walked past our table and apologized for the wait and told us they would be just a few minutes. That's Earl in a nutshell for you. Every bit as talented as anybody you've ever heard ( think of a mellower Jerry Lee ) and still considerate and a gentleman.

yeah, earl's a great guy and an a-list musician - funny too... his early rock and roll records as earl ball with "second and san antone" as the best have the total jerry lee lewis vibe... his early credits as a musician or producer were usually as earl ball... gary was a good friend and it's still hard for me to go see heybale without him... tj
