It took 16 hours of non-stop work. I started at 6 am and completed the process at 10:30 PM. We ran into unexpected issues because the TDPRI database is so large. We couldn't get it to migrate to the new server without errors. So, I kept trying different things to fix it. We hired an emergency server specialist and together got the site moved without errors for the first time around 10 pm.

I feel like I dug a ditch all day yesterday if you want to know the truth.

Been there, done that @ a nice hourly rate multiplier over a weekend usually.
Which softens the pain.

I pretty much figured, and you can petty much figure my comment is one of acknowledgment and sympathy combined. ;)

2 questions:

Didn't you just buy a new server last year ?

And I did not do a trace TR...[before&after] How much closer is the new server to the back bone?

I ordered a new server in June of last year. Because we operate 6 forums, our corporate website, my wife's two websites (food and knitting blogs), and our ad server on one dedicated server I decided to take it slow.

I moved the non-busy sites in June and then started moving my forums one at a time, moving everything but the TDPRI over to the new server. Since it was October then I didn't want to move the TDPRI during the fundraiser. Then it was Christmas and in January NAMM and then a family vacation. So, that's how it ended up waiting from June until nearly March to make this move.

I thought I might leave the TDPRI on the old server by itself. I was thinking that by itself it would be faster on it's own server. But it wasn't. The new server is bigger and faster all the way around.

The new server isn't any closer to the backbone and we're at the same server host in Quebec. We also took over control of our DNS records with each move. Previously, our webhost controlled our DNS and we couldn't adjust our TTL prior to a move. Now, I can set the TTL to anything I want. No more waiting to propagate.

The new server has two 8 core Xeon processors, 16 GB of Ram and 5x125GB 15,000 RPM SCSI drives in hardware Raid 5. It's a pretty screaming machine.

Ahh... Well enjoy the processor lag on your CPU [brain] for a day or so. It is pretty much like Jet Lag as I recall...

I am a bit rusty, [my last NOS gen was before the turn of the century] but don't you need 5 drives to do RAID level 5 ?

Yes. Brain fade. Our next server will use SSD as a dedicated database drive.

Anyway, thanks as usual and I hope you can enjoy the day more today.
