DetentionLevel February 23rd, 2012, 02:27 PM I'd be much obliged if someone could point me towards a faithful transcription of Merle Haggard's Swingin' Doors. I've been working on pedal steel-type licks and I HAVE to learn this one. Even if it's in a book you know of or something, I'd be happy to go out and buy it.
Thanks!
AJ Love February 23rd, 2012, 03:56 PM There is a great tutorial, with Tab, of how to play the Guitar Solo on Terry Downs' excellent instructional DVD "Honky Tonk Guitar Essentials"

Here's a great look at a way to approach the opening Steel part of "Swinging Doors" on a guitar...yes I know they are playing "Blue and Lonesome" but that opening is lifted almost directly from Swinging Doors (except this song is in A and Swinging Doors is in G)
AJ Love February 23rd, 2012, 06:45 PM Beginning Intro (from the YouTube clip of "Blue and Lonesome") (b=bend, rb=reverse bend, br=bend & release)...this song is in A, Swinging Doors is in G...to play it in G just transpose it down 2 frets

You, sir, are the MAN. Thanks!
telequacktastic February 23rd, 2012, 09:24 PM Awe thanks man. That song TOTALLY deserves the licks copped right, don't it?
Don Miller February 24th, 2012, 01:35 AM We do it in D. I wasnt able to work up a decent transposition of the intro so I made up my own. I will take a look at the write up in D, above..I also made up a stringbendery break....
Its a great tune and even with the license weve taken with it, always gets a good response...
