Ian February 21st, 2012, 07:59 PM Just installed one in my Larrivee L-05. What a great , natural sounding pickup!!! I can't say enough good things about it. I despise piezio under saddle pickups, they sound terrible. This sounds like an acoustic guitar!!! Finally!!!

Yep...they are great pickups.

spotface February 22nd, 2012, 07:09 AM "Pick Up The World" pickups are also worth a look....
braderrick February 22nd, 2012, 11:40 AM Great to hear. I've been looking into K&K pickups for a while as an upgrade for my McPherson. It currently has a peizo which I'm not too fond of like you. I've considered the trinity system but I'm not sure if I even need all of that. Maybe a pure mini is all I need.
In my experiences, an internal condenser is not very usable due to feedback and I don't like the quack of a piezo (though I've heard good things about K&Ks undersaddle pickup), but I thought maybe a blend of two or three of these may work. Very expensive experiments though haha.
Clifton82 February 22nd, 2012, 12:08 PM I have a K&K PWM in my Martin OM-28V. It sounds fantastic. It can be a little boomy, but the sound is super natural and woody as an acoustic guitar should be. Plug into a direct box when I play at church and the thing sounds great with zero feedback.
I have another K&K PWM on the way - and I cant decide which other guitar I want to put it in... a Martin D-16Adi or a Martin 000-15S?
I highly recomend the K&K PWM. I hate batteries in my guitars...
scott from west seneca February 22nd, 2012, 12:29 PM I just had one installed in my Martin D15 . $150 out the door . I sounds so good thru my peavey KA30 amp.
Bill Ashton February 22nd, 2012, 05:39 PM I have one being installed as we speak into my Guild D55. Commiserated over whether I wanted the added volume control or not then decided against...keeping it simple, just plug it in and play! ...I hope...
twintwelve February 29th, 2012, 07:45 PM I just installed one of these JJB Electronics Prestige 330 triple soundplate transducers on my 1999 Martin D-15:http://www.jjb-electronics.com/Presitge.html. It was easy to do with some of the online tutorials available, and sounds amazing. Jessie at JJB ships this item for 49.95, and it sounds identical to the more expensive K&K mini. I ordered the 15mm sized piezo's to compensate for the bass heavy nature of my all mahogany dread. It is a truly inspiring guitar/pickup combination, and I plan to fit these pickups to my other acoustics as $$$$$$ allows. To answer the inevitable "how do you know they sound the same" questions--I a/b'ed it with my friend's D-15 cutaway model equipped with K&K Western pure minis. If anything, it sounds better, but that may just be due to my obsessive pre-positioning of the sensors before I finally glued them down!
aunchaki March 1st, 2012, 03:07 PM Thanks for the heads-up on JJB's pickups. I might give one a try!

I have two K&K PMs on the way, one for a Larry and one for a J-45. I argued with myself for quite awhile before deciding to skip the volume control.
I have several acoustics without volume and one with it. I'm just not convinced it's a good thing to add into the signal path. I've got a Baggs Para Acoustic DI that I use depending on what sound configuration I'm in. It's not immediately at hand but close enough.
Anyone have strong feelings either way? I'd like to hear any opinions. Thanks.

I'd skip the volume control. I also use a Para Acoustic DI. It's within reach while I'm playing and I control things from it.
studio1087 March 4th, 2012, 07:37 AM 3 K&K Pure Mini's here. D-15, OM16GT and a Larrivee Parlor. I have one Pure Preamp box that I rarely use. K&K is the best. I'd love a dime for every violin or cello or upright bass that uses K&K equipment. It sounds natural.
jwsamuel March 4th, 2012, 07:53 AM FYI...Rob DiStefano's web site has instructions for installing the K&K that are far better than what come with the pickup. Look under Info & Pictorials.

Murky March 4th, 2012, 07:01 PM K&K's finally showed up in yesterday's mail after being delivered somewhere else first. I'll get them in this week, I hope.
Thanks for the feedback and especially for the link to DiStefano's instructions, Jim. I agree the procedure look better than those supplied by K&K.
Thanks again.

I have sent people from several forums to those instructions. No one has ever said the K&K method worked better.

I have a K&K Pure Western Mini here ready to put into my Larrivee D50. I was going to get another to put into my Guild GAD-30R but decided to try the JJB Prestige 330 instead. We'll see how the Prestige works out.

TaylorPlayer March 5th, 2012, 08:38 AM I have K & K Mini Westers in both my Gibson Acoustics, a 1964 LG1 and my newer Gibson Advanced Jumbo. Love the K & K in both. I won't use my Taylor 612C again on stage until I have one installed in that to replace the original Highlander UST that has been in it for the last 17 years. Great pickups and a great price for them as well.
For volume control I have always just used an old EB Volume pedal with a tuner attached to the tuner out on it. Works better than having a finger control in my opinion.

Jim!
When you get the JJB installed and tested, start a new thread about it. I'm this close to pulling the trigger and would love to hear how they work for you.
Good Luck!

Yeah, me, too. They've been getting good reviews at other forums and it looks like they've selected good off the shelf transducers and put them together with a harness for a very reasonable price.

Bill Ashton March 10th, 2012, 07:05 PM Got the Mini into my D55, a little disappointing into one of my old Guild (electric guitar) amps, though that was really to be expected...does sound better than the DiMarzio Element soundhole p'up...and actually sounds killer through the little Pocket-POD my siblings presented me with! So, I ordered the Pure XLR Preamp and I am sure I will be as set as I have to be...
