Poor mans four cable method?

Hi!

Since I got my new multi-effect/modeler (Zoom G3) which does not have a fx-loop or midi I have been toying the idea of building a switching device that will throw the G3 either in front of the amp or into the loop of the amp. By carefully organizing presets and some manual fiddling with the global settings on the fly you could get a "poor mans 4 cm".

I'm thinking a small metal box with a single foot switch toggling between front/in the loop with inputs for the guitar, amp send/return, multi-fx input/output.

I'm sure that there exists higher end switching systems with midi and relays for pro:s. This is more a solution to replace manual jacking/un-jacking of cables...

Thoughts from more experienced diy:ers on this?

You could try the geofex page there are a whole bunch of switching options somewhere on there, he might already have what you need or the parts anyways. It's hard to search though.
