Hi all, I have an American Standard Tele body and an AVRI neck coming and am going to assemble a nice Telecaster. I also have a Bigsby Palm Pedal and am thinking about throwing it on there.
The Palm Pedal is attached to a cheap and somewhat broken Les Paul style Bisgby, so I'll have to remove the arms and put them on a new Bigsby. That's fine. I also really want to use a Vibramate on the Tele, but I don't have an ashtray bridge and don't want one. I'm not sure if one is made for modern Telecaster bridges or not at the moment.
So, question number one: will the center bar of my current Bigsby directly replace the center bar of the replacement? How exactly do I remove it, does anyone know? I have snap ring pliers and can see how it might come apart. Or should I plan on putting the current levers on the new center bar of the Bigsby?
I'm finally willing to consider cutting the levers of the Palm Pedal down, otherwise, it's just going to sit there for another year. I can't deal with the levers where they would be uncut, I need to be able to palm mute and play there. I know that cutting the levers down is popular around here, so I'm hoping to get some advice. How exactly did you all cut your levers down? I don't have much in the way of saws, no power saws that I can use here. I obviously can have access to a saw if I pay someone to do it, but is there any way to do it by hand? And where did you cut it? I will put it on the guitar and sight it from there, I'm just wanting a few thoughts. How can I round and smooth it after that point, hopefully by hand?
At this point I'm just fishing for thoughts... I might not do it at all. It seems kind of a shame to cut the Palm Pedal down, so I might just get Hipshot B and G levers and go that route. Thanks for any thoughts!
