Strange oversized Strat!

I've been trying to do a bit of home recording lately & decided I needed a bass. In nearly 30 years of playing guitar I've probably handled a bass 10 times, usually under protest.

I went to the shop planning to get a simple, short scale, cheap & cheerful bass & left with a MIM Fender Precision.

Thing is, I've barely put it down since I got home. Lacking a bass amp, I plugged it into my POD & played it using the Bassman model. It's an absolute hoot to play, I found myself grinning like a loon, like I was enjoying it!

And I have read the thread about what guitarists do wrong when playing the bass & promise to behave myself!

Bass is a worthy instrument. Ive had a lot of fun playing them too, and even switched to bass once back in the 80's to join a band I really wanted to be in, and had a great ride!

I'm a bass lovin' wannabe.
I actually get paid to play it, though only about once a month.
I have a great 75' Precision that weighs two tons.
My "go to" bass is an 83 Daion Power Mark XXB.
Kinda like an early poor man's Alembic.
I put those high dollar Thomastic flats on it.
I can't put it down now!

Fyi - you /can/ use a guitar amp for bass practice. Example a 30W valve amp used for bass practice at home would need to be turned down just to keep noise level acceptable. That means reduced power, and that means it won't blow the speakers (the amp itself doesn't mind at all).

I have done this for years, either with a 10W bass amp (actually a guitar amp fitted with an over-rated 100W speaker), or more recently an Epi BC30 (a Bassman clone). The Bassman is a guitar amp from the time when there were no bass guitar amps. Many guitar amp heads have been used for bass into bass cabs - JTM100 (plexi), DR103, etc.

Just don't be tempted to crank it up with guitar speakers of the normal power rating.

That's right!
The only difference: The Strat had the Offset Body before the (Telecaster) "Precision" Bass had them (in 1954).

On the other hand, a 57+ Precision is closer to a Strat because it has a rounded neck pocket and the ugly "dwarf hat" headstock.

@ Don: Congratulations!
In Germany we say: "A P-Bass always suits you well."
Don't know if you have a similar saying in English???

And your bass has nice light tiger stripes on the maple neck?!

Beautiful.
Dig up some old Deep Purple and play along with Roger Glover. Tons of fun.
