Rob Artz February 16th, 2012, 10:41 AM Hi there,
I've just ordered a second hand Fender Telecaster Baja 2007 (stock).
I already have the possibility to change the stock-pickups with Custom Shop Texas Special™ Telecaster® Pickups.
Anybody says 'DO' or 'DON'T' :?:
Greetings,
Rob
TeleAnon February 16th, 2012, 10:49 AM Don't . More will follow with the same response.
Hallo and welcome to the forum.
Rob Artz February 16th, 2012, 10:55 AM Hi TeleAnon,
Thank you, glad to be here. Lots of usefull discussions on this site as I have seen the past weeks. So, time to become a member. Even because I'm starting to love the Fenders (guitars and amps) more and more. Never was a Fender guy before. Always a Gibson Les Paul fan. Must be my age I think.
I want to play blues/rock. Are the stock-pickups sufficient? People keep telling me the Texas Specials are widely used by bluesguitarists.
musicalmartin February 16th, 2012, 11:05 AM Texas Specials are great for an overdrive sound ,I dont like the TS bridge mainly as I play a lot of cleans but love the neck pickup which is great clean or hot .The Baja pickups are highly regarded on this site especially the twisted tele neck so I would wait and see.I have had both .i play blues but also some jazz and country and the Baja fitted all those bills well but was too heavy for me .Dont forget to try the Bajas pos 4/ s-1 engaged on some hot overdrive .That tone is great but not so good clean .
Dr. Bill February 16th, 2012, 11:11 AM No. The "Broadcaster" bridge pickup in the Baja is very similar to the CS Texas Special bridge pickup.
MickM February 16th, 2012, 11:16 AM Welcome! Play it like it is for a while. The stock pickups (twisted tele neck and broadcaster bridge) are excellent for playing lots of different styles but really shine in the blues/rock role. Also you'll probably find a greater range of tone with the Tele by learning to use switch and both knobs than you had in your humbucker equipped LP.
caliban335 February 16th, 2012, 11:39 AM I'd keep the stock pickups. In my opinion, they're the best feature of the Baja. If you decide to replace them I'd be interested in buying them.

me too !
jefrs February 16th, 2012, 11:54 AM Imo you can swap out the Twisted but the CS Broadcaster is one of the best there is.
Rob Artz February 17th, 2012, 04:33 AM Ok, I got the message :-).
The Telecaster Baja must be an overall great guitar.
Hope to have it overhere soon to hear and feel it!
Can't wait....
Thanks for your advices!
AJBaker February 17th, 2012, 09:02 AM The Baja has great pickups. Now that that's out of the way, they're not necessarily the best, or more importantly the best for you. I changed them both for Fezzter pickups, and I couldn't be happier. Depends what you're looking for, but from what I've heard the broadcaster is very similar to a Texas Special.
stilesg57 February 19th, 2012, 05:18 AM Imo you can swap out the Twisted but the CS Broadcaster is one of the best there is.
Ditto.
Add me to the DON'T list. TS is not an improvement over the Twisted Tele in the neck IMO and the bridge pup is just about perfect as is from the factory.
Sherpa February 19th, 2012, 07:35 AM I'd leave it as is until you've had a chance to really put it through the paces - the stock pickups are very much part of the Baja's magic.
