Need help from the Logic-savvy

Let's say you have one region you'd like to add a specific effect to — be it EQ, compressor or whatever — but you don't want to apply the effect to the whole track. In Pro Tools, you've got Audiosuite, where you can apply and render effects for the selected region. So far I haven't discovered an equivalent in Logic.

My workaround has been to create a new track, drag the region into it, and apply the effect with a plug-in on the new track. But my editing window is dotted with 4- and 8-bar tracks that really bloat the window to ridiculous proportions.

I know there must be a way and I'm just missing it. Any advice?

Wood,

You can automate just about every parameter in every effect. Which I'm sure you're aware. Bypass is not quite as simple.

For bypass, set to Latch/live automation mode. Option click the plugin where you want to turn it on/off. Reset automation mode to read.

Clumsy, but it'll get ya there.

Cheers,
Geoff

Another way:

While in automation, select Main-->Insert #XX Bypass. Click on the black line at the bottom of the region where you want to bypass the effect to create a node and drag it up. This will bypass the effect.

You can then enable or bypass anywhere you want in the track.

Thanks guys — I'm not big on automation cavern-crawling, but I'll try these just to expand my horizons. The Main > Bypass route seems fairly straightforward, so maybe I'll play with that some. That might resolve some nuisances.

im new to logic but versed in q base. but i believe if u make a splice around the area of the region ,or the whole region and double click it u get an editor window below that allows for process function , like gain ect...have u tried that ? u hit select all on the editor and apply function

Yeah, I use the sample editor often for the gain function, but don't know how or if you can apply plug-ins like EQ to the sample.

Couldn't you also create a bus, and automate the that?

Good thought! I'm pretty sure there's a way to automate buses in Logic (i.e. make them show up in your Arrange window), but I've been pretty intensely involve in a project and haven't had the time to dig into it yet.
