Hey everyone, i was considering starting to record a few songs, by myself as there is no one around where i live that plays instruments
so i was wondering if anyone could tell me what i would need, and maybe give a few tips?:)
Thanks

We sort of need to know what you have, e.g. PC or Mac, what it's age and processing power is... do you own any mic's? and so forth. Finally, what kind of $ budget do you have?? and how serious do you want to get with this?

There are quite a number of threads here in RIP already that address this topic in various ways that you may find useful.

all the best!

I have a PC, not too sure of the age or processing power but its windows vista if that helps? i have a mic but its not very good:mrgreen: i don't really have a specific budget, but the cheaper the better! not too serious at the moment, i was just thinking about kinda playing around with it, just for fun.
Thanks

Well, if cheap is what you're aiming for, then give this a shot. Pick up a small mixer, like this one:

Hook it up to your line in on your soundcard. Download a program similar to this:

Pick up a couple mics for vocals or recording your acoustic and play.

I would upgrade to an aftermarket PCI soundcard, like an M-Audio for some such equivalent for in the $150-$200 range. The built-in PC ones are pretty atrocious.

Others have said Reaper is good for $60 for recording software. Never used it myself though.

something like one of these will get you up and running in no time

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/alesis-io2-express-audio-interface

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/art-usb-dual-pre-two-channel-preamplifier-computer-interface

it is a simple two channel analog to digital converter that will allow you to connect an instrument or mike or both to your computer via a USB cable
and they come with basic multitrack recording software
