Pine sap on body

Last year I bought an very inexpensive paint grade Tele body from a source whose name I can't remember. All the parts seem to mock up fine. The body is light in weight and appears accurate. I want to paint it and transfer all the components from my first Alder partscaster which is too heavy and in a finish I never was really happy with.

The pine body was oozing a tiny bit of sap on the side. I lightly sanded it and cleaned it with acetone which worked at first, but a slight bit of stickiness came back after a few days.

If I repeat the acetone process and immediately shoot laquer sanding sealer, will that create a barrier so that a primer coat won't react with stickyness?

Thanks

Tom

I'd do your acetone...or naphtha is what I like. Then apply some Zinsser Seal Coat as a barrier. That will help lock in what little sap you have in there. Sand that a bit, and apply another couple coats of Zinsser, sand back a bit and then start shooting your lacquer.

Zinsser Seal Coat is a dewaxed shellac and shellac is one of the best sealers / barrier coats there is.
