mod a crybaby to buddy guy specstacomamc February 7th, 2012, 08:30 PM I am about to pick up a crybaby wah.. not sure what model it is, but I think its the classic or standard, nothing fancy. Can I mod this to the Buddy Guy models specs? limbe February 8th, 2012, 01:55 PM Possibly. IF youīve got a Fasel Inductor (the Classic use one,the Standard doesnīt) and a schematic for the Buddy Guy model, which I havenīt seen anywhere. So if the Crybaby you are going to pick up is a Classic and you can get hold of a schematic it may be possible.I donīt think Dunlop want to make the schematic available but I could be wrong. tacomamc February 9th, 2012, 07:32 AM Thanks for the suggestion. The deal fell through, so I'm back on th ehunt fro a Wah pedal... Bill Moore February 9th, 2012, 01:23 PM Just a thought, last year I decided I needed a Cry-Baby wah, and bid on a few from the bay. Idiots were paying $40+ for dead ones! Did some research, and found the bass model just uses 1 different cap. Bought one shipped for 20 something and modded it. Getting ready to make it true bypass, (and of course install a blue LED). tacomamc February 9th, 2012, 03:47 PM Do you have links to resources for those mods? I am picking up a plain old Cry Baby tonight in a trade... Stoked! limbe February 9th, 2012, 04:20 PM Try www.wah-wah.co.uk/bypass.html for conversion to true bypass. If you google Jim Dunlop Original Crybaby Wah Mod you will find lots of Wah Wah mods on youtube. tacomamc February 11th, 2012, 05:43 PM Well, I picked up a crybaby, and I think it sounds really great. I had to clean the scratchy pot, but that was easy. The circuit board has an "E" on it...is that the series, and does it mean anything? This is the gcb95. limbe February 11th, 2012, 06:15 PM If Iīm allowed to guess I would say Dunlop GCB95 Rev.E according to the link in my previous post. tacomamc February 11th, 2012, 06:28 PM Yeah, I did read that, but there were other letters/ numbers in the same area so I wanted to make sure. If I post a pic, do you think you'd be able to tell if it has been moded. I wonder, because it has a real snarly hendrix gritty shound that I didn't think would be there in stock form. If it is stock, I don't seed why so many would mod it.. granted, this is my first foray into the wonderfully world of wahhhhh. limbe February 12th, 2012, 01:56 PM tacomac,I am not trying to be sarcastic or putting you down in any way.It is just a guess because Dunlop has an E revision. If we are talking about why there are so many mods on Wah Wahs I have my own opinions (of course). To convert it to true bypass isnīt something I would call a mod.It doesnīt change the sound. It just prevents the Wah from loading down the pickups when you donīt use the Wah.The other mods are more personal. If you mod your Wah,do one mod and listen to your Wah before you do another mod. tacomamc February 12th, 2012, 03:16 PM Limbe, no offense taken at all.. I love this place, and learn tons here. Thanks for the link. I cleaned the pot, but its stol a little scratchy.. just a little. I'll clean it a gain and then buy a new one if I need. Separately, this seems to give quite a bit of.edge to my ac4 tv8, but I cant tell if its just the eq changes or.if its pushing the.amp a bit. Either way, its nasty, in a tasty gritty way! limbe February 15th, 2012, 02:24 PM I am glad we understand each other. If you have a good electronic cleaner (no WD-40 or similar product) and you have sprayed it twice and rocked the pedal back and forth immediately afterwards youīve sprayed there isnīt anything to do if the scratchiness comes back.Guitar and amplifier pots can often be cured because it is dirt and oxide that makes them scratchy. In a Wah Wah Pedal you are simply wearing the pot out and no cleaner can fix that.Yeah, the sharp sound from a Wah Wah is very penetrating! Some guitarists use the Wah Wah as a tone filter and leave it in one position! tacomamc February 15th, 2012, 02:55 PM Funny you say that about it being very penetrating... I have been thinking about building a treble boost pedal, but almost get it from my wah wah if I leave it in the up position. limbe February 15th, 2012, 04:55 PM To take a tune with some pretty good Wah Wah guitar,I ainīt superstitious from Jeff Beckīs first solo album features real nasty Wah work.(On youtube). |
