The thread about Auntumn Leaves had some really nice side effects:

I knew the chords and I kind of knew the melody. but I didn't really know the melody in the B-section. I knew pieces of it, but I couldn't hum it straight through.

Thanks to the chart posted in this thread I decided to learn the B section from the chart. You know, from standard notation... Without listening to it. Last night I did it!

Officially: The B section from Autumn Leaves was the first thing I ever learned from standard notation.

It may be time to get into reading!

So the question: Any more ideas for melodies that are easy on the eye? Nothing complicated, just nice melodies without much clutter on the charts.

There are a lot of jazz standards in the Real Book(s) that aren't too hard too read - Satin Doll, Bluesette, Misty, etc, etc. If you don't have one (or more) buy the legal versions off Amazon and play through as many tunes as you can a day.... and then try some of the harder tunes...

+1 to the above.

I always recommend this ...

And this ... http://www.amazon.com/Best-Beatles-Flute-Chart/dp/0793521424/ref=pd_sim_b_1

Both are pretty simple and have good melodies.
