this morning i woke up as an electric guitar player in two pretty ok bands. this afternoon ? no more !
one band, the more pro-type, hasn't gigged since 12/21/11, and since there were really no friends involved, just players wanting to gig, it is no surprise that some are ready to move on, now the gigs have dried up. no hard feelings there, though i'm kinda surprised the whole thing is coming apart. could be something i don't know, but don't much care anyway.

the other band, the friends/weekend warrior type, is losing it's drummer. sadly, his sweet, sweet wife, who hasn't been feeling well for awhile, got news yesterday that she is dealing with a chronic illness that will probably get worse for some time to come. she is not 40 yrs. old and they have two children not yet 10. very sad. the other players and i have no heart to go forward without him, though we will jam when he can, just to lift his spirits.

meanwhile, i got a call monday night from a bluegrass chum, an excellent singer/frontman who can really get the gigs, inviting me to play banjo in the new band he is forming, all veteran pickers, easily ready to go as winter turns to spring.

of course, monday night i was quite non-commital about the offer, but called him about an hour ago, after a morning full of these heavy-duty texts, and signed on board for some banjo pickin'.

so, it looks like i'm trading dim lights, liquor, and stale perfume for daylight, beer, hay bales, and bar-b-q ! what a difference a day makes !

i will, however, be keeping a toe in the electric guitar pool: i'll be playing my tele at church every sunday morning as usual.

One door closes and another opens. Good luck and I'll take the BBQ and beer any day!

Good Luck, Banjo Habit! (or as my dyslexia would prefer to say, Banjo Hobbit!)

You got to roll with the times and adapt. I always get a charge out taking a new direction and learning new stuff. Have fun, and let us know if you're ever coming to Richmond.

I feel for you, seriously. My band broke up due primarily to health issues last fall, and I really, really miss it.

Good luck finding a new gig!
