what picksnarativesoul January 31st, 2012, 03:51 PM just was wondering what everyone uses for picks. guitarpreston January 31st, 2012, 04:09 PM Have 1 bluechip. Love it. Had a redbear. It was nice too but broke. Those were my top choices other than that pretty much anything. historicus146 January 31st, 2012, 05:43 PM http://fredkellypicks.com/regular.html/ AutoReverse January 31st, 2012, 05:51 PM plain old black dunlops. Lefty138 January 31st, 2012, 06:11 PM dunlop nylon .73 guitar dan January 31st, 2012, 06:13 PM Dunlop Jazz III (the small red ones) MiloCroton January 31st, 2012, 06:33 PM 1. Dunlop Nylons 1mm 2. Various Tortex/Delrin/Celluloid in about a .75 3. Some kinda thumb pick (not found the right one yet) gtroates February 1st, 2012, 01:55 AM Lately it has been the Dunlop yellow ones for rock and acoustic playing, the Gator Grip in green (1.5mm) for jazz, and a John Pearse thumb pick for the Chet Atkins/Lenny Breau/Jerry Reed stuff. I used to do the $3.00 and up Wegen picks thing but I like getting them at a price I can afford to lose them instead of dreading dropping them at a gig. The Dunlop Tortex and Gator Grips are around thirty cents each, I don't worry if I lose my picks anymore. Mike Simpson February 1st, 2012, 02:08 AM D'Andrea Pro Plec 1.5mm 351 shape andrenighthound February 1st, 2012, 04:12 AM Snarling dogs brain picks extra thin and extra thick. GigsbyBoyUK February 1st, 2012, 06:43 AM Recently I started playing Gypsy Jazz and felt that my regular picks weren't right so I went to a guitar store and bought half a dozen different picks, one of each kind. It took a day trying them all out to find the one for me and now I have a bunch of them. My point is that although it's good to get opinions on picks, there's nothing better than trying out lots of different types to find the one that's right for you. brookdalebill February 1st, 2012, 06:49 AM Dunlop Eric Johnson Jazz IIIs now! jeb stuart February 1st, 2012, 09:54 AM i use a quarter. local shop sells em for fifty cents. Phil In Ottawa February 1st, 2012, 12:57 PM For years, when I was more or less just a rhythm player, I used nothing but the Herco Flex 50. But last summer I started playing more single note stuff (jazz, blues) and switched to the Jazz III Black Stiffo. I liked the size and sound but when winter rolled around and my hands got all dry I found they were difficult to hold securely. So I ordered some F-1 picks with the "cup" on the back thinking they would provide a good grip. UInfortunately, they turned out to not be to my liking. I then got some Jazz III Black Max-Grip and I love them. Same size and sound as the regular Stiffo but with much, much better grip. I don't see myself changing to another flat pick any time soon. For fingerstyle (which I've only been playing since last year as well), I use a cheap Dunlop thumbpick with the point filed down. And I just ordered some fingerpicks to try. The ProPik Finger-Tone and the Fred Kelly Freedom. Looking forward to giving those a go because I can't seem to be able to go very long without breaking a nail. OlRedNeckHippy February 1st, 2012, 01:12 PM Dunlap Tortex Standard .60mm (Orange). I seem to break a lot less strings, especially on the acoustic while bangin out rhythm, then any other picks I've tried. Throttleneck February 1st, 2012, 01:24 PM dunlop nylon .73 +1 Tommy Biggs February 1st, 2012, 03:35 PM I then got some Jazz III Black Max-Grip and I love them. Same size and sound as the regular Stiffo but with much, much better grip. I don't see myself changing to another flat pick any time soon. +1 for the JazzIII MAxx grips. I like V-pick Screamers too though, and the Gravity picks are nice. Both real easy to keep in position. If I could find a local dealer, I might switch to either of those permanently. nosuch February 1st, 2012, 03:38 PM http://www.musik-schmidt.de/images/product_images/info2_images/Dunlop-Jazztone-Small-204.jpg tap4154 February 1st, 2012, 03:51 PM Digging these, in several thickness: http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg812/scaled.php?server=812&filename=ultex.jpg&res=medium rolling56 February 1st, 2012, 04:00 PM I still have a bunch of picks i grabbed free from a Dallas,TX guitar show from all the venders in the mid 80's and i emailed most all of the pick companies for samples so i just grab one off the table(s) i have them sitting on. No brand preferred choice for me as long as it's .60mm or thicker......... backporch guy February 1st, 2012, 07:32 PM Fender Celluloid Heavy - the cool red tortoise looking ones. SpiderWeb February 1st, 2012, 08:21 PM I have accumulated several Blue Chips, V-Picks, Wegens, Red Bears, and a couple of Gravity picks. I seem to use a Wegen and a couple different V-Picks the most... Gtar4jc February 1st, 2012, 08:30 PM Fender perloid thins for acoustic strum, Dunlop .58 gators for electric, v-pick Lite small triangular on electric too. MiloCroton February 1st, 2012, 10:21 PM The Dunlop Tortex and Gator Grips are around thirty cents each, I don't worry if I lose my picks anymore. Man, we really get screwed in the UK for picks. They cost at least double. Normal picks are a minimum of £0.50 (around $0.85 I guess) but things like Jazz picks are £1 and stubbies even more. chabby February 5th, 2012, 04:07 PM Real weird looking thumbpicks I'm not even sure who makes. They flex and have a little narrow tab for the pick part that is about a quarter inch wide, if that. It extends out from the thumb about 1/2 an inch, but I shave it down further to make it feel as natural as possible. That has made adapting to the use of any pick at all much easier for me, though I still only use it selectively. I learned without a pick at all, the classical style and have always marvelled at hybrid pickers and flat pickers. I've just never been able to become profficient at those methods comparatively. Basically I use thumb index and middle and sometime a little ring finger. I've only recently changed my dominat finger from index to middle ala Brent Mason. It was easy to do and is faster and more natural positioning of the hand versus the strings than the index. Guess it's because it's a little longer and farther away from the thumb. When I play slide or just strum, I use one loose finger similar if not identical to Derick Trucks style. Picks have mostly been superflous to me until I discovered this strange thumbpick about 10 years ago. wmsimpson February 5th, 2012, 05:39 PM Real weird looking thumbpicks I'm not even sure who makes.
