Our band leader and her husband were both away again this week, so we took it upon ourselves to do some original tunes. This is called "Hands of the Harvest." For some reason I got a case of the nerves just as we started so my voice cracks a few times. I should have recorded the soundcheck--I was relaxed then and it sounded way better!

Something about my guitar just never sounds right in these recordings. It sounds great through the monitors, though.

Sounds like a great tune.

That may not be your best performance of it, but I'll be willing to bet after you guys have played it a few more times it will sound even better.

that is an excellent song!

Thanks.

There’s an interesting story about that song. One night the three of us (me and the other two guys in the video) were talking about writing some new songs.

I told them I wanted to write a song about how we all have a purpose in life, but we don’t know what it is. We could be meant to save the whole world, or maybe our purpose is to give that one word of encouragement to someone who thinks he can’t go on any more. Only God knows our plan.

One of the guys (Luke) called me up the next day all excited and tells me he’s started working on that song. He tried to play it for me from his hand held recorder over his cell phone while he was pumping gas. I couldn’t hear it, but he emailed me the lyrics he had.

He came up with a title, “Hands of the Harvest” and his first verse was:

Could it be someone that I talked to ?
Maybe someone I’ll never even know
Could have been maybe…I don’t remember
Someone in the night?

I came up with another verse and the chorus (made his verse the second verse) and gave it back to him.

We independently came up with a musical arrangement, so we actually now have two different songs with the same lyrics. His is a Jack Johnson-type arrangement, and mine is what you see here. It’s not fully done in the video—I actually envision it as being a lot “heavier’ with electric guitars adding some crunch to it.
