Wahs To True Bypass or Not (and the consequences)

Trying to decide on a wah option. I don't use wah a lot, but want to have it occasionally. I have 2.
-1-A Vox v847 standard wah, which I modded to make it true bypass. I followed the simplest mod instructions I could find at the time online. Sounds great in bypass, does not "suck tone" but sounds like a vacuum cleaner on one side (the toe side, I believe), especially at high volumes/gain settings.
-2- Regular old crybaby I recently got in trade. Sounds...eh, ok, I guess.

So how many of you recommend true bypass mods on your wahs? And is the vacuum cleaner sound something I can perform additional mods to get rid of, or is it just the way the vox sounds?

By "vacuum cleaner sound", I mean a loud hiss that fluctuates as you sweep, mostly going away at one end, but coming back, loud and audibly separate from the guitar tone, which also changes with the sweep, obviously. So as you use it, it sounds vaguely like when you vacuum and the shifts in direction make the sound change repeatedly.

Hi

I've done the truebypass mod with an LED (since my switch broke) on my crybaby and I also removed the buffer.
I'm not a huge wah user but since I got it it's on my board

Mine's not as noisy as yours seems.

Here's a link to the mods I've done: Stinkfoot wahmods (http://stinkfoot.se/articles/modifications)
There are some very helpfull pictures there.

Hope it helps.

I have a Vox 847A that needed help - so I got the Whipple mod kit on ebay that included the 3pdt true bypass switch. It really improved the tone, doesn't suck the tone in bypass anymore, and made the unit better than almost any wah I've had. ( I did have an early Vox many years ago that was the best ever, but it grew legs and walked.) The mod was fairly easy ( you have to know how to use a soldering iron), and only took part of an evening to do.

I think I did this:
http://www.wah-wah.co.uk/

The wah has a super wide sweep, but again, the signal sounds dirty. I'm guessing that because this mod really only deals with the switch and removing the buffer from the circuit, that it needs some resistors replaced or something. Most of the kits that people charge between $30 and $50 for have a few resistors in there.

Anybody know what to do there?

Just did a cry baby diy mod two wks ago...not the bypass or the fasel, but adj the teeth and a couple of resistors...I don't recall...but it really improved the tone and it was super easy...30 minutes and maybe $1-2. I can look for my record of what I did.

Definitely adjust the teeth. I did the true bypass w/ led, removed the buffer and I replaced the inductor with a whipple inductor in my crybaby GCB95. It's a totally different wah now, and I think it's much improved.

I had the Fasel reissue version of the cry baby. I had trouble figuring out how to truebypass it, does to the board design. So I bought the same one 95. It was really easy to truebypass, added the power jack and changed the paint while I was at it. Just need to change the inductor and add a led. That model of wah has no buffer to defeat.
