bygdaddy January 26th, 2012, 12:21 PM puttin a pic on a pickguard
I recently got a cool Aria Strat in a trade from a forum member and decided to give it to a buddy who had to sell his Hagstrom. He wants to customize it and make it his own, he's thinkin about a little western, cowboy, clint eastwood kinda theme. We were talking about ideas and i came across this adhering a picture to a pickguard (http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f57/customizing-pickguard-photograph-684027/)and thought it was a really cool idea. Has anyone else done this? If so how bout some pix or if anyone has any pix or ideas for something to help with the theme.... like shotgun shell brass for volume knobs, etc..... post away.....
thanks,

Though it's under...not on.
jmiles January 26th, 2012, 05:29 PM Not eggs ackley the same,,,,, but,,,, Danos have clear guards, so I'd put a different pic UNDER the guard every week at one of our house gigs. People would walk in the door, and come right up to the bandstand to see what the new pic was!
Arbiter January 26th, 2012, 08:16 PM Done it. An old Rembrandt print. It looked great. I just got a cheap pickguard (always save your original), sprayed some spray adhesive on it, laid the print down, cut out all the pickup and controls, and then laid a sheet of laminating plastic on top and trimmed it up. Came out fantastic.

Yep, done this too. My Jag-Stang had Bridget Bardot on it for a while. However, although it looked good, it didn't feel very permanent. If I did it again, I'd mount the picture on thin card, put a clear pickguard on top and cut round it with a sharp scalpel. To mount it on the guitar, I'd simply trap it between the body and the pickguard.
Which reminds me of a little Telecaster project I had in mind... :D
jmiles January 29th, 2012, 06:27 PM Yeah Matt! Get a clear guard and change the pic whenever you feel like it. That's what I did with my Dano. It was a crowd pleaser. I've got a stack of pics I used with that guitar. Just cut from magazines and stuff.
