StoogeSurfer January 24th, 2012, 07:34 AM So what's the song that your cover band does that is usually the winner of the night? That song that everyone in the band dials into, and gets the crowd going ..?
For my band, that song is "Bang a Gong." Sometimes 3 chords really is all you need.
ddewerd January 24th, 2012, 10:21 AM Never Call Me by my Name (David Alan Coe)
We get all the gals to join in the singing (hello, hello...), either on stage or out in front of it with a wireless mic. It's kind of become our local anthem, everyone songs along.
And sometimes it's the same thing with Mustang Sally. If we forget to play it, we often will get requests from the ladies in the audience.
Hey, ya gots to give em what they wants.
Cheers,
Doug
gpar7 January 24th, 2012, 10:27 AM We've been doing good with Blue Sky , Do you feel like we do (frampton). Daughter works really well too as we go into a pink floyd welcome to the machine before breaking dow to the regular ending of daughter
blowtorch January 24th, 2012, 10:29 AM I thought this thread was gonna be about Jerry Lee Lewis covers. In which case I suggest "Whole Lotta Shakin'" over "Great Balls" because it's easier to pull of because it doesn't have those jerky stops.
Back on topic,we keep "Hanky Panky" up our sleeve for when the bachelorette bus pulls in.
chippertheripper January 24th, 2012, 10:40 AM I hate to admit this, but Johnny b good. The cover band used to do a ripping version.
JimInMO January 24th, 2012, 10:45 AM Family Tradition, towards the end of the last set. Some times as an encore.
JonnyPM January 24th, 2012, 11:49 AM Nazareth - Hair of the Dog - usually start with this one
Pink Floyd - Young Lust - usually end the whole night with this one
Red Rider - Lunatic Fringe
Those seem to do it for us.

Martin R January 24th, 2012, 03:51 PM Peter Gunn has always been a great set closer...A couple of years ago we added Shakin' All Over after hearing Wanda Jackson do it.
But now, we're getting great response with State Trooper (http://soundcloud.com/e-christina-herr/state-trooper) .
BedspreadPicnic January 24th, 2012, 04:56 PM Deep Purple - Hush

The band that I'm in does these two songs, too. But, one of the guitar players and I (bass) play the riff while the other guitar player plays some surf stuff then we roll into "Shakin' All Over".
The reason we start doing the songs was one of the guitar players is a Brit so he heard "Shakin' All Over" done by Johnny Kidd and the Pirates as a kid.
StoogeSurfer January 25th, 2012, 12:40 PM MartinR, whose 'version' of Peter Gunn do you do? We've thought about adding this one, it's such a great tune. As a set end-er is a good idea too.
I lobbied for Shakin' All Over before, might have to renew that pleading ...
ce24 January 25th, 2012, 12:47 PM No Woman No cry gets em out on the floor to polish their belt buckles then kick in Knock on wood and Mustang sally/ takin care of business.

It's really just one riff with a melody line on it. I think it was Sara Vaughn who wrote some lyrics for it. I'm pretty sure it's on iTunes. Your singer will need some pipes, though.
As for Shakin', we tighten up that pause...as do a lot of folks.
telewacked January 25th, 2012, 12:55 PM I almost hate to admit it, but Sweet Caroline is always a huge hit...and this is in a country band! Some songs are just fun I guess, regardless of genre.
blowtorch January 25th, 2012, 01:22 PM We do "Shakin all Over" too, the Guess Who had a great version
String Tree January 25th, 2012, 09:26 PM sc1LtiV5xLIWe do a version of SLIPPED, TRIPPED, FELL IN LOVE that goes over pretty well.
Sollophonic January 26th, 2012, 05:11 PM Used to be "Gimme Some Lovin" (Winwoods song), but last gig we did, we introduced "Lady Marmalade" and it went down so well, we had to do it again as an encore.
I'm trying to get the band to do Hot Chocolate "You Sexy Thing".
I reckon it would fill the dancefloor.
stratomite January 26th, 2012, 05:30 PM "Miss You" seems to always make the wimmins go into spontaneous dancing.
It's that jungle beat. Dudes like it too.
rarebreed January 27th, 2012, 09:11 AM Our band is strictly a cover band that has progressed from top 40 country back to mostly classic rock. We have about 3 or 4 songs we cover that we get a lot of requests for and the crowd loves them. The songs are Hotel California/Eagles, Twilight Zone/Golden Earring, The Boys are Back in Town/Thin Lizzy, and All Night Long/ Charlie Daniels. Both of our lead guitarists really work good together on these songs especially on the harmony riffs.

that's a good 'un, I've been working up a version with my honkytonk band.
McGlamRock January 27th, 2012, 02:14 PM "Peg" by Steely Dan always goes over well for us
