Hallski January 22nd, 2012, 10:01 AM How many Hagstrom owners do we have out there? I searched the forums to see if there were already a club for these beautiful machines, but I found none!
Here, we can post pictures of our Hagstrom's, new and vintage models, so that we can all enjoy and discuss each others guitars.
I'll start... here's my Hagstrom Super Swede.

eddy jaye January 22nd, 2012, 11:10 AM Greetings Hallski,
I have a 1966 Hagstrom "Corvette" which I purchased brand new. At that time the Hagstrom had a faster neck then the Fender Strat. Incidently they were the same price, so I took the Hagstrom. It's a beautifull red with a rosewood fretboard, and still plays nice, and was my go to axe for about twenty years. I have since gone on to Fender Strats., and recently purchased my first Tele. which I have totally fallen in love with. I am fairly new to this forum, and also basicly computer illiterate, so don't know how to post photos yet. If you could let me know how to put some photos of my Hagstrom up like you have done I would be more then happy to post them??
Kindest regards,
Eddy
Hallski January 22nd, 2012, 06:27 PM Greetings to you as well, Eddy. Thanks for posting...
I had no knowledge of Hagstrom prior to picking this us up. I bought it in March of last year, and I also purchased it brand new, so it is from after they reopened (I think they shutdown originally in the 1980's?). While they now build in China, the quality of this instrument is amazing, and it plays so great that you would like it would be at least double what I paid for it! I wanted to a Les Paul, but not the price, so you could say I compromised, but I came out the winner!
As far as the pictures go, I simply set up an account at PhotoBucket, http://photobucket.com/, and you can upload your photos from your computer. Once you have done that, you can copy and paste the link into the message space, and the photo will show up like it did for my pictures.
I look forward to seeing your Hagstrom!
Rod Parsons January 22nd, 2012, 09:11 PM I bought a 1965 Hagstrom 3, electric, that looked somewhat like a Strat. It was real red, it had 3 pickups, and it played really fast, it had a good tremolo. and it sounded fabulous through my 1963 Ampeg Reverborocket.. I bought the Hagstrom III in 1965, new... The Ampeg I bought used the same year. I used them in my band and it worked great for all the hits coming out the... The Beatles, and blues, and British of 1965-1966.. I had to let them both go before 1967. I sure wish I had kept them both.
Hotrod40 January 23rd, 2012, 12:46 AM My step father had a Hagstromback in the 70's...always loved it...he sold it or traded it for next to nothing...if we only had of known then what we know now...I purchased this one a few years back...it was beautiful and great value... I traded it for my american Deluxe Tele...I may pick one up again.

Hallski January 23rd, 2012, 12:58 PM Thanks for posting Rod! It sounds like you've played both an original Hagstrom and one from the modern run, so I have to ask how the two compared in terms of quality? I feel that in its price range, my Super Swede outperforms most of its competition, and even though no longer made in Sweden, it still possess the quality of a guitar double its price? Would you agree? Thanks!
Rod Parsons January 23rd, 2012, 01:38 PM Well Hallski, I actually don't own a Hagstrom any more. That was the only one I owned. I felt like this thread needed some input, so I posted about the one I had. I guess I am not a member of this club because I don't actually own one. But, if they are making them like they used to, that's great. When I was playing mine, I saw a good number of the Hagstrom IIs, with two pickups, and a couple Hagstrom basses of the same style. They were a step down, at least in the minds of bands back then, from a Fender... I still have the original hang tag from 1965.
62 Jazzmaster January 23rd, 2012, 02:44 PM My brother & I nearly cornered the local market for Hagström guitars during the late '70s-early '80s. Sadly, most of them were sold, but I still have the parts for one of the HIINs. The decapitated Swede is at the repairman's shop.
Here are a few pics:

what happens to a Hagström Swede if you let your kids borrow it.
Hotrod40 January 24th, 2012, 12:43 AM Thanks for posting Rod! the original one we had was a Viking version so tough to compare to the current Super Swede...and it was a long time ago...lol...however I think many companies now are offering excellent value for the money..everytime i walk into a store i go wow.
Weazel January 26th, 2012, 04:05 PM I had a white Swede in the eighties, but had to sell it to pay rent or food or something.. I have always regretted it, so I Bought a new white Swede a couple of years ago, and it was like getting my old one back! I'm really impressed by the quality. I also have a Hagstrøm bass from 1978, it has a real skinny neck and my bass player loves borrowing it.
I also have an early eighties strat, an Apollo (mr John Kingma) Baritone, and I've built some guitars over the years. I've kept four of the teles for myself.
The Swede is very versatile both live and in the studio, and man, it's got a fast neck!

This is a D2F. I like it just fine. It is a lot of guitar for what I have in it.

Hotrod40 January 30th, 2012, 05:24 PM Very nice Bobb & Rocker..I am enjoying the Hagstrom web site...they have a good selection of models...not too many like some of the other companies..something for everyone in my opinion.
gayler February 21st, 2012, 01:46 AM Only pic I have of mine is my avitar. It's a 1965 Viking. It's sitting right next to me as we speak,er type. I just put 12's on it with a wound G and it sounds HUGE now!
jmiles February 22nd, 2012, 12:40 PM Bought the Strat-like one, early-mid Sixties. Robin's Egg Blue. When it got a small chip, pink primer showed through! Quite fugly, but my first decent guitar. Shortly thereafter, I got a used Tele. It was at least a dozen years old. Blackguard. Wish I still had that one! But it was just an old used guitar back in '64!
Land of Dragons March 3rd, 2012, 05:28 PM Bought myself a Vintage Burst Super Swede as a Christmas present. Fret edges were a little rough, so filed them back. Scratch plate edges as they go around the pickups had nicks in them where the saw had caught in material and neck pickup surround has a tiny crack in it - so overall, a few annoying QC issues that are very simple to remedy.
All that aside, this guitar is the dogs doodah's! It growls, it makes me smile, its fantastic and I will never, ever get rid of it because I don't know what could better it - and I got it new for £350!
MOSRITE April 12th, 2012, 08:34 PM Hi to you all, my first time here,so....
In 1962 i had a hagstrom 1 made in sweden,paid 175.00 canadian dollars,thinner neck in the world or equal a 70's mosrite ,
i sold it why, i don't remember,but on march 1995,i bought a hagstrom 1979 jimmy (d'aquito)oval sound hole serial no:53 057 002,
sold it too, many regrets for both, but in dec 98 ,i bought a 1967 red viking 1 model, serial no:715352)with original hsc,i remebered the regrets i had selling the other ones,so this time i still have it and love it ,may i say that it is about 5 pouds lighter than my 1980 gison es335 ebony,ok it'not the same but after playing few hours, you will know what i mean,.so vintage hagstrom makes the job for a lot of gigs but i have to admit that i am not a heavy metal player,,,,.thanks for reading, just wanted to tell all guitar lovers ,and don't stop, guitar is a man's best friend....or nearly, have a nice day all.
paratus April 15th, 2012, 06:43 PM I could have been a member many years ago. My second real guitar was a Hagstrom Futurama PB-24 G, made of plastic, wood and vinyl. I wanted a Strat, but I was in grade school and had to caddy to make money, so that was out of my league. I got the Hagstrom and a Princeton non-reverb brand new in '65 or '66.
The Hagstrom had the slimmest neck I had ever seen, and was a huge improvement over the the Kay single cut semi-hollow that was the first guitar I ever bought.
I sold the Hagstrom when I bought my buddy's '65 SG Special (I sure wish I still had that guitar!!)
This is a Futurama, mine was white.
strat_tone April 19th, 2012, 08:32 PM I had a 65 (I think) Viking de luxe / deluxe. Sunburst, gold hardware, binding all over, block inlays, all you could want. I sold it because I was questioning the structural integrity. It's a true hollow body, and the top is 3 pieces. 2 matched pieces like a les Paul, the third piece between the neck pickup and neck. Fawking stoopid. The string spacing was rather narrow too. The neck was super thin, the frets were small too. I sold it to a swede, I was glad to send it home. Fine geetars they be.
ReaL Madras April 23rd, 2012, 10:01 PM I have a Hagstrom Viking Deluxe pictured below....

beautiful ! I have cherry burst super swede that sounds rocking with some gain and the coil tap is so useful. Only problem I have with my Super Swede is sometimes when I switch to the neck pup it cuts out on me sometimes for a few seconds its weird but mine was dropped in store before I bought it leaving a huge dent in the bottom left side and leaving a big discount for me :)

Hmm, interesting that it cuts out. But, if it comes back in, then its probably all good. Doesnt seem like it bothers you to much!
I actually have my Swede up for sale right now. Its kind of hard to do, but I am really getting into single coils right now, and I am looking to replace it. I love the Hag, but its not really suiting my needs right now. If you know anyone whos looking, send em my way!
But thanks for the compliments, it really is a great guitar!

Probably just a dirty switch. Take a nail file and clean up the contacts on the switch. Should take care of it (for now). If it persists, probably a new switch will take care of it.
bumblefingers September 27th, 2012, 09:42 PM Anyone try the Viking baritone yet? Tempting me. Any idea on neck thickness or nut width? In general are hag electronics good?
62 Jazzmaster September 28th, 2012, 01:45 PM While spelunking in the Guitar Cave, I found an HIIN body and an incomplete Hagström III neck, but still haven't been able to find an HIIN pickguard to finish it off. It'd be cool to get them together and play it again.

hagstrom-man October 22nd, 2012, 04:50 PM I have an old (1975) Hagstrom Swede and it needs new pots. Can anybody tell me if the pots have long or short shaft? Plus, is the shaft knurled, fine knurling (24) or coarse (18)? I cannot check it myself currently because the guitar is with my brother in another country and I would like to buy the pots before I go and see him...
beowulf January 18th, 2013, 12:28 PM Good Morning everyone..
I just recieved my first Hagstrom, a VIking Deluxe and it is a beautiful instrument. I do have two questions though, trying to figure out the age of the instrument.
The guitar is Cream Red with the standard trapeze tailpiece BUT..the tuner knobs are the stainless steel ones typical of the Viking Deluxe Tremelor model. The guitar I have does not have the tremelor on it...just wondering if the previous owner exhanged the tailpieces or what..
Overall, the guitar is in surperb condition and plays wonderfully..just curious about its history..will post pics ASAP if needed. I've read that the S/N is not a great help in determining production info but here it is anyway, in case anyone out there can provide any information.

Thank you for any help you can provide

05Blue February 5th, 2013, 12:16 AM A vintage sunburst Super Swede (not vintage) was the very first electric guitar I ever played on. When I bought mine it was an impulse...but I'm glad I did.
...trying to figure out how to do the pictures....eventually
62 Jazzmaster February 6th, 2013, 12:27 AM It wasn't where I thought it was, but it turned up while looking for something else- the vibrato tailpiece from my old Viking! I wish I'd kept that Viking, but I swapped it for a Fostex 4-track back in the late '80s.

It has the older style tail piece. I would guess early to mid 70s
