Stupid question about scale

THis may be obvious and stupid, but if I put a 25.5" neck on a body made for 24.75" scale neck, will it be fine? It would reason that it would be, but I guess I never really thought about it til now.

Someone make me feel smart or stupid please ;-)

I'm gonna help you in being stupid too !

I'm thinkin' the bridges are on different places on the respective bodies ????

I have no clue

good question though

Depends on how much bridge adjustment you have put most likely no.

If you put the bridge at the correct location, you should be fine. If the body is pre-drilled for the bridge, you will probably need to fill the holes and move the bridge further away from the nut.

I believe the distance between your nut and the 12th fret should be exactly the same as between your 12th fret and the bridge.

All of the above are correct, except that the distance between the 12th fret and the saddle will be slightly longer than half the scale length.

There are "conversion" necks made that are constructed to put the nut and the 12th fret in the right place in relation to the bridge.

Ah, that's interesting. Somebody told me wrong (or I wasn't listening properly as usual) - how much longer?

I'm curious how you would come across a body made for a 24-3/4" scale, since most bolt-ons are patterned after Fenders with the longer scale length. You might have issues with the neck pocket fitting the heel if you're swapping universes like that. But, if you can make it fit, it's just a matter of putting the bridge where it needs to be. The saddles will actually be a little bit farther back than the scale length would suggest. This gives you a starting point for compensation, and then you adjust the saddles fore and aft for intonation from there.

Not very much. About 1/8" on the treble side, about 1/4" or so on the bass side.

That'll be the reason that the bridge is staggered then?

I'd always assumed the 12th fret Harmonic was half-way along the string, but looking at it that's obviously not the case or the nut would be at an angle too... so much to learn...

Squire VM thinline tele is. Saw one fir sale that i was considering getting. suspect it may be using a conversion neck, but not sure.

I also have a jaguar body here and the same question still applies to that one even though it's even shorter scale (24").

Both will have compatible neck pockets, no prob.
