I've got a son who's just started playing bass guitar (Ibanez Precision style) with no prior musical instrument experience and is into heavy bands like Converge, Deftones, Rage Against The Machine, Gojira, Soilwork etc and I'm looking to pickup a few books on learning bass, but mostly opinions on the best ones out there for learning the basics, scales, and maybe something geared towards those type bands? Any tips or "enlightenment" greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lorin

Coming back to the bass guitar after a 27 year abscense (not kidding), I picked up a 'Bass Guitar for Dummies (http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/bass-guitar-for-dummies-cheat-sheet.html)' book. It's simple enough to follow, but goes through a lot of basic stuff, including a bit of music theory and how to implement it on a bass. Great for repetition, and I'm sure for a beginner as well.
