im in SE Pa, fwiw.
...or maybe i mite be interested in forming an orig praise band
any suggestions on where to even look for a gig?
btw, thanks to Paul for even letting God be discussed here.
Joe-Bob January 16th, 2012, 12:50 AM If you don't already attend church, then that's where you would start.
As far as getting a "gig" doing it, there doesn't seem to be any such thing.
ChickenKiller January 16th, 2012, 03:18 PM Yeah I'd say maybe go check out a few churches and visit with the WL's there and see what that area needs/ or is looking for.
frankthomson January 16th, 2012, 06:18 PM cool
thx guys
SamClemons January 18th, 2012, 04:49 PM Craigslist under "musicians" is a major place to find or look for bands/churches/openings here in the local area.
bear04 January 19th, 2012, 11:32 AM The band I am in got started by playing as a worship team and leading when our church hosted outdoor services. From there we slowly got invited to other outdoor services, then combined services, and then on to bigger churches that wanted to expand into modern worship. We now play at about a dozen or so events every summer and the odd event through the rest of the year. Not overwhelming, but we love every opportunity. We've also had the opportunity to play at several events that had nothing to do with religion or Christianity, so it was a great opportunity to witness through our music to a completely different crowd. The best was when we were asked to be the solo group on July 1st for the Canada Day celebrations in the park.
Anyway, my point is to start small and over time it might build to more. Let your church know you play guitar and make yourself available whenever they need you. Just stay faithful with your message because you never know who's listening and who needs to hear the words.
74 Deluxe January 22nd, 2012, 06:12 PM Your local guitar shop oughta know what churches have bands, if your looking to join an existing P&W band... But we started out doing "Special" events at our church. Like we played a picnic... and we did a couple of "voluntary" songs at the regular service, did a couple different Christmas tunes one year... Then we got a new pastor who heard us at another picnic... So being the forward thinker she is, we now have had a praise and worship service every Sunday for 3+ years.
frankthomson April 16th, 2012, 12:03 AM hey guys, thx again for your suggestions

Esaaal April 18th, 2012, 01:13 PM There are several Christian coffee houses in SE PA ( I'm from Bucks County) that regularly host bands. My church has music every Saturday night.

Great news! I've always played a the church I'm part of - it seems like a good starting point to use your gifts to serve others. Praying it all goes well!
PraiseCaster April 25th, 2012, 04:17 AM Getting involved at your church is the best starting point.
Learn modern P&W, contemporary, & hymns. Become versatile in in them all. Find out what seems to be the dominate type around your church neighborhood, and get well acquainted with it. Because the pastor/leaders/congregation will expect it.
An Independent P&W band? Yeah, you can do it. Coffee shops, big churches with a busy schedule/visiting preachers/speakers..... They always can use other bands.
Clubs though? You can play mix of secular songs and CCM too.
