Chud January 15th, 2012, 08:45 PM One of the local big box stores has a sonic blue Classic Vibe P-Bass on the wall that is just gorgeous at $260. It's probably been sitting there for a year or two and they no longer make that color in the CV bass series so they just want to get rid of it. It's not a horrible deal as it stands now, but I bet I could get them to drop another 20% and make it close to a $200 deal. I just noticed it today while the GF and I were walking through so didn't get a chance to check it out but will tomorrow. Anyone have one or have experience with one who can chime in?

I have a CV Jazz Bass and if all things are equal............GET IT GET IT NOW DO NOT HESITATE,ARE YOU STILL HERE? RUN RUN RUN!!!!! AWESOME guitar!!!!
Radspin January 15th, 2012, 09:28 PM If it's a good one, grab it! I've played about a half dozen and a couple didn't do it for me; the rest were fantastic.
JaMmeRman January 16th, 2012, 10:01 AM Ya, I've got one in Lake Placid Blue, and it's great. Even at that price.
dada January 16th, 2012, 02:10 PM I have one in Sonic Blue. I'm a guitar player who wanted a bass to mess wirth. My bass player buddy was floored by how good these CV basses are. That's a real great deal, jump on it because the Sonic blues are very hard to get now unless you find a used one. I've had a real fun time with it and it sounds and plays good IMO. It's a steal @ $260.
Cadfael January 16th, 2012, 03:56 PM I only played a CV Jazz Bass (like telefunken has one) ...
It was one of the best Jazz Basses I ever played ...
I also tested a dozen Ibanez SR and SRX basses ($300-$800) and one white Squier VM P-Bass. The Squier ended as #2 ...
Every instrument is different. But if it's a good CV: Take it, even if it costs $260!
If you are luck, the bass can compete with Fender American basses. If it's medium quality, it might compete with a Mexican ...
Chud January 16th, 2012, 06:00 PM I'm going to take a run over and check it out in a little bit. Last part of the day they may want to make a sale and get it off the wall.
scantron81 January 18th, 2012, 12:30 AM I've been looking for that specific bass for a year. It was the first in the CV line and Squier replaced it with an ugly red model :( If I were you I'd grab it quickly and mail it to my home address
KenH January 18th, 2012, 12:59 AM Guitar fetish has these for $169/189 with their best alnico PUs and real alder. They look tempting if I didn't already have the CV Jazz Bass. http://store.guitarfetish.com/Xaviere-Bass-Guitars_c_362.html.
Here's mine refinished in black lacquer.
Chud January 18th, 2012, 01:20 AM Didn't get to go over there last night, but going in the morning before the day gets going and I don't get home until 10 again. You guys definitely don't make it easy to ignore GAS!
scantron81 January 18th, 2012, 02:10 AM I've come across two at $299 and $349, so you're doing pretty well at $260. Especially if you can get them to throw in sales tax or a new set of strings or something extra. Never hurts to ask ;)
scantron81 January 18th, 2012, 02:15 AM To be clear, it's this bass, right?

I wouldn't hesitate at all. Jump all over it. I bought a CV Jazz last fall slightly used, not a mark on it anywhere, for $250 including a $40 gig bag. They're great basses and almost a steal if you can pick one up for around that price. If they won't budge at all on the price I'd still buy it for $260. You won't find a better price on a new one. I'm looking for a used Matt Freeman in vintage white right now.

Yep, that's the one.

I just got one of those delivered yesterday (Sunburst with rosewood fretboard). It looks and sounds great - but the neck is like a chainsaw on my hands so now I'm looking for a fret file (Yowch!) For that price I'm not going to complain if I have to spend a few hours cleaning up the fret ends though.
Chud January 18th, 2012, 10:33 AM Morning sales guy must not have gotten any last night or seriously needed some coffee. He didn't want to budge off of $260, wouldn't include a gig bag, set of strings, or even much of a smile. "Oh, well we're a big box store and we don't move on price, we guarantee blah blah blah, not on commission blah blah blah..."
Lol! I'm going to go back one of these evenings when a few of the guys I've bought a bunch of gear off of are there. It was a really nice bass though, played and sounded like artery choking butter. I'll probably do it at $260 later anyway, but have to at least try again to get them to come down a bit.
JaMmeRman January 18th, 2012, 10:46 AM My CV P-bass is worth every bit of $260. Good luck!
Cadfael January 18th, 2012, 03:38 PM Hi Chud,
don't forget that every bass is different!
There are surely much more Sonic Blue CVs in the world.
But no other is exactely the same as the one in the store ...
Mayber there are even better - but money is never a good reason to be (or get) happy!
I own a (German Rockinger) Telecaster which is worth $400 but I wouldn't sell it for $40,000! An excellent suiting instrument is like a excellent suiting partner! You can't buy it for money and every price is worth it ...

Oh, I've already played it and it's worth every penny of the $260 and then some. Though I will say that if someone offered me $40,000 for one of my other CV's that play as well as this (or any of my other guits for that matter), I'd probably have to take them up on it.
Chud January 21st, 2012, 08:02 PM I caved. They wouldn't budge on the price from $260, but I had a $5 reward thing so... I went back on a few shifts and tried to haggle with different salespeople, but no luck. It sure is purdy and plays like a champ! Pics in a while.
noah330 January 22nd, 2012, 08:58 AM I have the Jazz Bass like someone posted above.
I wouldn't call these amazing basses or anything, but considering I'm not a bass player and only play on recordings (and those tracks are replaced by a real bass player) or for fun around the house this is a surprisingly good sounding, fun bass to play.
In the 80s/90s I either had some awful 60s POS or a low end Fender, Squier, Fernandes, etc... of the day and this is much cooler then those.
FWIW I bought mine with a bag and flatwounds for $150 on ebay.

You made a good buy. These Squier CV's are pretty rare on Ebay or CL where I live. They don't pop up that often and you'd have a hard time trying to find another in Sonic Blue as the current ones are Fiesta Red.
The best deals on them from MF run right around $300 so with what you saved you can buy a nice gig bag for it. Nice bass.
Rich_S January 31st, 2012, 07:12 AM My son has a Sonic Blue CV P-Bass, it's his first full-size bass after starting on a short-scale. I was ecstatic when he chose it over sefveral more modern nu-metally-looking things. It's a bass that fits in everywhere, classic yet still punkish. I replaced the pots and jack in it, but other wise no work needed other than the occasional truss-rod adjustment. I thought his was a deal at $275 (new), so I think you done OK.
Here he is at his first band practice with the new bass, almost two years ago. He's a lot taller now, and his hair is shorter.

Chud February 3rd, 2012, 11:06 PM Going on about two weeks since I've had the bass and am really enjoying it. Very simple tonally, but solid and classic sounding. Definitely happy with the purchase, and it prompted me to pick up an actual bass rig rather than run through my little keyboard amp. Grabbed a used Peavey 1x15 Headliner cab with a used Tour 450 head. Some serious earth shaking going on here now!
Jakedog February 15th, 2012, 10:19 AM You made a good buy. I have the 60's CV P in fiesta red. I like it alot. I'm about to upgrade to a more serious bass, but I'll be keeping the CV as a backup. The only thing I really thought needed replacing out of the box on mine was the tuners. I replaced them with a set of Grovers I had in my parts box. Then I replaced the pickup with a Basslines Quarter Pounder. There is nothing at all wrong with the stock pickup, I think it sounds really great. I just happen to really like the QP, and had one, so I used it.
I've gigged my CV a ton, including using it as my only bass on tour with a national artist. They are not MIA quality, I don't care what anybody says. But they ARE very giggable instruments. Really nice fit and finish, and the looks are stellar.
The only true complaint I have is that the necks are floppy. I have the 60's P, and bought my nephew the 60's J. I know another guy locally who has the 50's P in Lake Placid Blue. All three of them need truss rod adjustments every time the wind blows. Those necks do NOT stay put. With my nephews J, and my friend's 50's, it's always back and forth. Some days you have to back it off a little, some days you have to tighten a little. On mine, it just loosens itself. About once a month or so, I notice the the action is getting high, and the neck has a nice bow, so I stick a wrench in there, and yep, the rod is totally loose. It just backs itself off. I'm guessing it just vibrates loose. Kinda weird and annoying, but not the worst thing in the world I guess. It's a more than decent player and sounds great, especially considering what I spent on it.
