I got the drums in and was prepping this before the vocal tracks arrive... This was still up on the DAW when I broke my leg, then had a friend come over and shut down the studio.... This is Randy on drums, Ned on the '64 DuoJet and yours truly on bass. Mimi has the vocal tracks partially finished and as soon as they are done, I'll get a friend to come over and integrate them in to the project and do a cursory mix so we can hear it with all the parts in place.

That one has real nice driving energy to it!

Cheers,

Nice solid bed track — enjoyed the bass work but wouldn't mind a little more punch in the kick. I'm sure you'll fine-tune the balance of the lead harmonies as the process unfolds. Just stay away from those basement stairs!

yep! this one I've always loved since they put it out in 1966 on Revolver. It's a wonderful short song that they considered a "throw away" album filler song but in retrospect, I think it is pure genius! It starts out of the gate by immediately grabbing your attention with the lead guitars, then you realize what the bass guitar is doing and drive it with great energy for 2 full minutes, all the way to the finish line at the back door.

woodman, I did try a touch more kick emphasis at one point last Monday but after listening to it several times, I thought it was a bit too proud in the mix at that time. When the vocals get put in, I suspect it will have to come back up just a touch though to really solidify the foundation. With regard to the lead guitar, this is still the 'both lead parts played simultaneously' that Ned did in one take! Very impressive to see played & done like that but he and I spoke this past Wednesday about it and the feeling is, this is the way to do it for live performance but he is going to come back over and record the two parts separately so I can control the blend in the mix. I also think he is going to do one of the parts with the vintage Casino also and through the '62 AC-30. So, to your point, we are going to fix it by re-recording the two lead parts separately and with the DuoJet / Casino combination and get the old AC-30 involved. If it all goes right, the guitar tone should be even more authentic.

Learning that bass part was a lot of fun! and the challenge was to try and capture that same 'fire' that McCartney had when he recorded it originally. In my opinion, the bass part and lead guitar bits interacting together are brilliant. I just hope we are able and capable enough to recreate the spark that the original has.

That was one guitar covering both parts at once??? Wo!

Re the kick, if you could give it more attack, it wouldn't have to necessarily be louder ... I've had a lot of luck with a freebie plug called BitterSweet II (https://www.fluxhome.com/download) that can accentuate or de-accentuate your attack ... works great to put some pop in the kick or a flubby snare (or tame the transients on an overagressive snare). Here's a review (http://www.cobaltaudio.com/plugin-review-flux-bittersweet-ii/).

hehehe..!! yeah, Ned is the lead guitarist in the current band and he is off the charts good! Randy is the drummer in the band and it's all in support of Mimi Betinis, the singer, songwriter and guitarist for his own band that I am part of. These are all dear friends of mine and we are doing this Beatles project with Mimi. I think I posted before in the recent She Said thread about Mimi and Pezband from the late 70's and his current ressurgence with his recent album that I'm involved with, plus the new album of originals he's got due out in May of this year. This Beatles covers project, if successful, will be another album under his name and will be a tribute / recollection of some of his influences in the formative years. I'm the album project leader. The other aspect he is considering is to weave a few of these Beatles covers into his current live set list and tell the story about how these influenced his becoming a musician and songwriter. We have found that in our market there are a lot of people in the audience that appreciate hearing these old tunes performed really well. If interested, here's his bio... Re: the drum attack... Sonar has a nifty built in percussion strip called the PX64. I have it installed on these and have already tweaked the attack up but maybe need to sharpen it a touch more. Here is a link to SOS that describes the PX64 capabilities. It works really well and it just comes down to getting the 'seasoning' just right.
