Favorite song to playcaleb.lapish January 5th, 2012, 10:02 PM What are some of your favorite worship songs to play and why? GeetarPlayer January 6th, 2012, 01:43 PM Since this is all about electric guitar playing, I'd say "Hosannah" by Hillsong. Lots of interesting riffs in there, and yet very simple and clean parts. Not to mention how it moves me to worship as I play and sing it. caleb.lapish January 8th, 2012, 10:19 PM Since this is all about electric guitar playing, I'd say "Hosannah" by Hillsong. Lots of interesting riffs in there, and yet very simple and clean parts. Not to mention how it moves me to worship as I play and sing it. Thats an awesome song. Hah I play lead guitar for alot of hillsong and Jesus culture style bands but I have never once played that song hah. I'll have to try it. tjalla January 8th, 2012, 11:18 PM ^ not often you find a #11 in a Hillsong number. Good example of a tasty, effective instrumental. rokdog49 January 9th, 2012, 07:40 AM Too many to list! Tim's tele January 27th, 2012, 01:40 PM Awakening by Jesus culture, first song that has given me a challenge in awhile in a worship setting. Otherwise Freedom is Here is a really cool one. caleb.lapish January 28th, 2012, 10:33 PM Mine would have to be either "how he loves" or "lead me to the cross". Hah both very very simple but I love those songs Teleworshipkid January 29th, 2012, 02:32 AM since this is all about electric guitar playing, i'd say "hosannah" by hillsong. yes. lots of interesting riffs in there, and yet very simple and clean parts. yes. not to mention how it moves me to worship as i play and sing it. yesyesyes! SixShooter January 31st, 2012, 12:55 PM ^ not often you find a #11 in a Hillsong number. What does this mean? Teleworshipkid January 31st, 2012, 02:39 PM What does this mean? "sharp-eleven(th)". It's a chord. Old_Skool_Noma February 27th, 2012, 07:47 PM I'm gonna go with "Let The Praises Ring" - Lincoln Brewster kbraker February 28th, 2012, 01:14 AM Electric: revelation song Acoustic: only in God( John Michael Talbot) southpaw pete February 28th, 2012, 01:39 AM "Today is the Day" and "Glorious" by Paul Baloche. Love the hooks in both of those songs; just a blast to play. SoVeryTired February 28th, 2012, 03:40 AM Hmmm, tricky. I tend to like songs where I can play some nice riffs or solos but also get a chance to hit things hard in the chorus (e.g. Evermore or My Future Decided by Hillsong, the Jesus Culture version of Holding Nothing Back). rip_topaz February 28th, 2012, 07:09 AM I really dig playing "Everybody Praise the Lord", especially with the band I'm playing with now. Normally we'd dumb it down so everyone can play it, but with this worship team, we play all the cool riffs, including the breakdown in the guitar solo. FenderBender01 February 28th, 2012, 12:02 PM I'm thinking almost any song by Lincoln Brewster is fun to play. Jhengsman February 28th, 2012, 03:28 PM We don't play any of these at my church but my favorites to play at the moment are: Falling In Love With Jesus, Jonathan Butler because he is my favorite. Chasing After You, Tye Tribbitt. And Deeper, Israel Houghton. On of the first songs I learned was Elton John's Your Song. On Deeper I am again trying to take a piano driven original song and play it on guitar. Edit to add because I just remembered in church I would put down my bass a play Lisa McClendon's You Are Holy. But with only one key modulation bek February 28th, 2012, 11:06 PM Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble, I think is the name of it. Personally I'd rather play Church House Steps, but we're not there yet. bawdyli'lmonkey March 1st, 2012, 12:40 AM off the top of my head: "Me and Jesus" by Stellarkart - it has a Green Day vibe that's different from standard P&W. I broke an A string rockin' that one once! "Father, Spirit, Jesus" and "Lifesong" by Casting Crowns - upbeat and grab the congregation every time. "Rise and Sing" by Fee - rock out. "Chosen Generation," "You Lifted Me Out," and "All Bow Down" by Chris Tomlin - upbeat and energetic, groovy ... more to come... DoodlySquat March 1st, 2012, 01:26 PM All Who Are Thirsty! I love the way it sounds it's a beautiful song, every worship band should play it. mrboson March 1st, 2012, 01:31 PM Yahweh - Ross Parsley & the Desperation Band Duncas March 1st, 2012, 08:29 PM Like Incense - Hillsong. powerful song and the guitar riffy thing sounds so good with delay, me and the other guitarist managed to harmonise it perfectly. docglock March 4th, 2012, 07:50 PM I'm back and forth from Hosanna (Hillsong) and All For Love (Hillsong) for the sheer "grab your heart" kind of song, and Freedom is Here (Hillsong) for the rock it out kind of song. Lots of great guitar parts justin.ramsey March 5th, 2012, 09:51 AM I like All Consuming Fire and You Wont Relent. I have devised some good sounding leads for those songs so I can actually play more than chords on em. mrboson March 5th, 2012, 01:45 PM I like All Consuming Fire and You Wont Relent. I have devised some good sounding leads for those songs so I can actually play more than chords on em. Great songs! I love the main hook for You Won't Relent. Yes, it's simplistic, but it just sounds good. I use it all over the song just like Jesus Culture does. There is a place after one of the choruses where I get to go off on a short paint peeling fest, though  My church is ok with that sometimes as long as I repair any damage done to the walls afterwards. mrz80 March 12th, 2012, 03:07 PM "Agnus Dei", "Your Great Name", "Mighty to Save" - I get to exercise some of the crunchier rythym tones. I'm a child of the 70s and power chords are deeply embedded in my musical sensibilities :) "In Christ Alone" - I love the melody and the various fills. After many listenings of Maggie Becker's arragngement, I'm striving for a more bagpipe-like tone for this I'm working on Keaggy's rendition of "Rise Up O Men of God" - some cool open-chord stuff up and down the neck "Pour Out Your Spirit" - nifty chord progression, esp. on 12string (If only I still had a 12string (though that'll be remedied again before too long as I'm building one :) )) "Better Is One Day" - one of the few we do where I can really stretch myself musically on the solos, and I'm a sucker for that E-A-B thing with the A and B as "barre chords minus the barre" up the neck "I Will Rise" - lots of fun with dynamics the way we have it arranged, going from finger picking to pad-like chorusy sound to pedal-to-the-floorboard crunch and back again Muzikp March 12th, 2012, 03:56 PM Death in his Grave by John Mark McMillan. I'm a slide player at heart so any chance I get to play slide I enjoy. Although it's hard to keep it together, it's a powerful song to me. We did this song at easter last year, here's the vid Guess I don't know how to embed it http://youtu.be/m0YPWH6ftQg Sweetly Broken is a fav, not necessarily because it's got great lead guitar parts but mostly I just really enjoy the worshipyness (just made that up) of this song. I also like to play Galaxy by Something like Silas (I think that's who does it). Cool half time instrumental. Like everybody else Hosanna is fun to play as well as Came to my rescue by Hillsong. Cannons by Phil Wickham has a cool intro that's fun. My Savior lives by Baloche is fun. theskypilot March 12th, 2012, 06:41 PM I have been listening to UPDATE an album of favorites from the Desperation Band and their worship conference. I am in love with Yahweh and the tone they are using on their guitars. As a rookie player, these songs are relatively simple and easy to jump Ian's play with the rhythm. |
