In July 1962, a 1.44 megaton (6.0 PJ) United States nuclear test in space, 400 kilometres (250 mi) above the mid-Pacific Ocean, called the Starfish Prime test, demonstrated to nuclear scientists that the magnitude and effects of a high altitude nuclear explosion were much larger than had been previously calculated. Starfish Prime also made those effects known to the public by causing electrical damage in Hawaii, about 1,445 kilometres (898 mi) away from the detonation point, knocking out about 300 streetlights, setting off numerous burglar alarms and damaging a telephone company microwave link.[7]

Starfish Prime was the first successful test in the series of United States high-altitude nuclear tests in 1962 known as Operation Fishbowl. The subsequent Operation Fishbowl tests gathered more data on the high-altitude EMP phenomenon.

The Bluegill Triple Prime and Kingfish high-altitude nuclear tests of October and November 1962 in Operation Fishbowl finally provided electromagnetic pulse data that was clear enough to enable physicists to accurately identify the physical mechanisms that were producing the electromagnetic pulses.[8]

The EMP damage of the Starfish Prime test was quickly repaired because of the ruggedness (compared to today)[9] of the electrical and electronic infrastructure of Hawaii in 1962.

The relatively small magnitude of the Starfish Prime EMP in Hawaii (about 5600 volts/metre) and the relatively small amount of damage done (for example, only 1 to 3 percent of streetlights extinguished)[10] led some scientists to believe, in the early days of EMP research, that the problem might not be as significant as was later realized. Newer calculations[9] showed that if the Starfish Prime warhead had been detonated over the northern continental United States, the magnitude of the EMP would have been much larger (22 to 30 kilovolts/metre) because of the greater strength of the Earth's magnetic field over the United States, as well as the different orientation of the Earth's magnetic field at high latitudes. These new calculations, combined with the accelerating reliance on EMP-sensitive microelectronics, heightened awareness that the EMP threat could be a very significant problem.

1. Listening to the Byrds play "Draft Morning". It it is quite clever how Hillman and McGuinn's voices were blended so that they sounded like a single Dave Crosby. Still immoral that they "finished" his song without Crosby's consent.

2. Is it possible to disdain every flavor of Faygo and still be considered a Juggalo?

Leinenkugel Fireside Nut Brown was beaten soundly by Yuengling as a chaser for a rack of ribs at the Rendezvous this evening. The beer was not at the Rendezvous, but at the Flying Saucer, although that's purely irrelevant. After a suitable pause, it may soon be time to sample additional liquids to chase some blues at the Rum Boogie Cafe and other establishments in the area. Might need to stop for a consultation with Dr Feelgood Potts before retiring in anticipation of another days work tomorrow. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

My kids booby trap the house with legos. My wife booby traps our room by leaving the iron board and iron up, then she leaves the iron unplugged. I hate stepping on legos and plug-ins at night. This is even worse because we have a 13-month old so you can't even scream or yell, you just gotta do silent contortions and bunny hops on one foot. I wish I could think of some clever way to get the wife and kids back without it looking like it's on purpose so she don't cut me off from buying gear... :) While I am rambling on, does anybody else's kids have those particular noise maker toys that randomly come on by themselves? They're so creepy...

The truly scary thing about this thread is, although it is trying hard to be totally unlike the other threads, it is distressingly true to them.

Just to prove it I am quoting something that quotes a quote against the spirit I think. So the OP loses the thread. Therefore if someone can lose then someone else has to win.

I misunderstand people regularly probably due to lack of concentration and threads go off in a weird direction. This is the first ever thread I have fully understood and can comply with the rules.

I know he wasn't hugged enough as a child, and that all the other boys in the neighborhood used him as a punching bag to punish him for the fact that his mother used him as a mannequin to sew dresses to sell at the church bazaar. Seriously though, all that was like, 30 years ago. Is it really healthy for him to still be so upset about it? Would it kill the sunofabitch to eat some seafood now and then? Christ almighty. The prices of baking ingredients this year are outrageous. Pecans are very expensive.
But I have a tip - spices from ethnic grocery stores are relatively cheap. Cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, etc. can be found in the Indian specialty stores for lots less than the general glass-bottle supermarket brands. Marshalls and TJ Maxx have a random variety of spices around the holidays for mostly 50% off regular prices.

I like beer...it makes me a jolly good felllloooow
i like beer...it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow...
(makes..him..feel..mellow!)
whiskeys too rough champagne costs too much and vodka gets my mouth in gear...
this little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact i like beer
(he likes beer!)

I think it probably has to do with 2012 being the end of the Mayan calender.

See, there's no other way about it. If you can't see that, you are blind!

The Powers That Be won't let us off so easily, though, so prayer and meditation can only go so far. Sooner or later you have to buy hemp clothes. Don't worry, friend, they are quite comfortable after a few washings.

Yes I would recommend the tung oil because I read that it is really good (in a public library book I checked out over 25 years ago btw) and it stuck to the wood and to my memory, you might want to get some other view but I still have the book and I owe a ton of overdue fees, so you might as well take my advise because it is costing me a lot of money. Just sayin'

What are the rules here... cause I am so dense, is it allowed that I read any of the posts? the title "Please comment on this thread without reading any of it!" This clearly states that I should not read any of it, that, in its entirety, is equal to this simple fact... no one is reading this thread or this post for that matter, so I can talk about all the stuff that is not allowed here at the TDPRI - but of course... we all are human aren't we???... ha ha ha ha

I will not take the chance of getting thrown in the hole again - it's dark in there  This is liken to a complete member ignore thread!!! AWESOME! ... but not really that actually sorta sucks!

FYI, nobody is on my ignore list, I don't use it. Yeah like anyone is reading this anyway  - I have a lot of faith in my human brothers and sisters huh? I know some of you are reading the posts but I am in denial and I believe that everybody is capable of following the simple instruction and has self control and integrity.
