Yes--might not fit your definition of cheap but the Seagulls are amazing, made in Canada guitars for the price.

I have one of those Recording King ROS-06's and I love it. I've tried the Takamine New Yorker as well and thought it was a bit bland, although I love the looks of it.

The ROS-06 has a pretty wide nut and string spacing so it might take some getting used to. It has a ton of volume and sounds good to my ears. The only thing that isn't great about it is the tuners. I replaced mine with some Grover Sta-Tites for about $40. After a good pro setup it just sings.

You can pick them up from instrument alley or amazon a bit cheaper than MF.

I would highly recommend it as a good sub $350 guitar.

Anything by Blueridge!

I have a johnson, as far as I can tell they are the same guitars as blueridge made in same factory, same style. Just the johnson company only comissioned one or two models, while the Blueridge company got lots and lots of different guitars with extra fancy inlay work produced.

I have a Fender DG8S less than $200 solid spruce top. Nice for the money. 2 1/2 years and still liking it.

As I mentioned in another thread I really like the Fender Tim Armstrong. If you can get past the wacky graphics it is a great small guitar with a decent pu for short $.
Keep in mind that it is a easy task for a good luthier to install the pu of your choice in the guitar of your choice. If you are good with tools it's no big deal to do a system with no on board controls yourself. I have done a few and along as you have a tapered reamer for the end pin jack it is fairly straightforward.

Seagull S-6... cedar or spruce top.. They're all solid tops. Their electric acoustics are nice, too.

All these guys are probably way more knowledgeable than me but I'm going out on a limb and suggest a Samick Greg Bennett series. Samick makes a lot of other brand guitars anyway and there is a good chance you'll end up with a Samick with another name on it. I have one and it plays good and sounds good. Cost less than three hundred. Couldn't hurt to try one.
