Hipshot installation.

Hello,

I just got my Christmas present in the mail yesterday... a Hipshot with B & G benders w/ a dropped D lever (although I'm not planning on using the D Lever.) I opened the box and the Bender unit and hip lever are there but there was only one small package with a long wood screw (replacement for the strap button screw) and a few very narrow teflon tubes.

This is a new unit I got off ebay. The directions seem sketchy and I'm wondering if there should be more parts???

Also, if anyone can give me an installation breakdown it would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Ray

Pickguard screws work well for the area around the strap pin. I also drill out the front of the plate (towards the bridge) and use two pickguard screws there.

Yeah, the instructions seem straightforward. You only need 2 other screws like Uncle Fezz says.

Thanks, Fezz and Grandstick.

When drilling out the screw holes on the faceplate I'm thinking that in each corner you would drill one pilot hole that is maybe a 1/4" from the side edge and a 1/4" from the front edge?

Thanks again!

I also put screws on the top of the Hipshot, eliminates all kinds of bad stuff and tuning problems!....JH in Va.

Seeing as you're going to add screws to the top, get ridda da felt! It just compresses. Get the felt off, so the bottom of the Hipshot plate is in contact with the guitar's top.

like others said, the screws are the best move : they keep the device anchored, no tuning problems at all.
I kept the felt in, maybe I could take it out but I had no problems with it.

That's an interesting diagram.

I've not bought a hipshot for a while and mine have only one screw hole for the strap button - obviously the new ones have 3.. I've never drilled it for any extras and never had problems with it staying in place.

The teflon tubes are to thread the string through to protect it where it rubs against the metal parts but I've never really used them either.

If you're not using the d dropper you might have to remove it or stick it down as it will rattle around. My advice would be to give it a try - if you don't engage it it won't cause any harm and you might even find a use for it.

Actually I've been thinking about the drop lever and started to have a change of heart... you are right, for now it's probably best to hook in the low E and just leave the lever alone.

I'm thinking about putting the Hipshot on one of two Teles in particular and both have Wilkison bridges that work as string through or top loaders... that being the case I probably wont need the teflon tubing as the top loader holes are chromed and smooth.

Use the tubing! Teflon is slippery stuff. Definitely will save your strings.
