Saw Hillsong Live at the Nokia Theater Monday...

My birthday was Tuesday, and my parents surprised me with tickets Monday after school, which they got awhile back. They were really good seats too! 8 rows back, smack dab in the middle.

The music was phenomenal. The 'Droff was there shredding, as usual. One thing I noticed, was that he had a mike in front of him, but he never sang into it. It must have only been mixed into everyones ears, because it looked like he was using it to call out all of the changes (which I guess is necessary since so much of the set is based on feel, and most of the endings are at least a minute long). I've never seen a setup like that before.

I felt God at that concert. There's a certain feeling you get when you don't care about life's troubles anymore, and you just want to worship. There's nothing like looking around to see thousands of hands raised just like your own, all singing the same words to the same Lord. Nothing like it.

Their humility blew me away. They went the whole show without any introductions, at all. Every concert I've been to has introductions. Not these guys. This wasn't even a concert. They weren't singing TO us, they were singing WITH us, TO God. After the last song, without a word, they just ran off the stage, leaving us to sing a few more choruses by ourselves for a few minutes.

All in all, it was phenomenal. I would strongly recommend anyone to go experience them if they get the chance (if not, I'll take those tickets in a heartbeat ;) ). Just thought I'd share with my big 'ol online family...

Oh, and I would post pics, but I forgot to charge the camera I brought with me. :(

Glad you enjoyed it! I saw them when thy came to Nashville and it was amazing! Like you said it was less like a concert and more like the best worship service ever! I'd love to see them again.

When I saw them I don't recall seeing Droff have a mic but I could've missed it. But it wouldn't surprise me if he was calling out changes either. All of the venues at my church have someone doing "production" basically calling changes, giving ideas, adding musical runs, etc. Into a mic thats only mixed into our IEM. They're basically the producer of the show as if we were in a studio. It is actually pretty handy!
But anyways congrats on getting to see them and happy birthday!

Worship Pastor of our church knows the Hills boys and plays with them occasionally, and yes the MD-mic-into-IEM does keep things moving forward, allows guitarists to play to click for intros without the drummer counting off, spontaneous progressions or variations to songs being called on the spot. We've adopted that approach in our teams too.

It might seem like alot of production, but all it is is taking a bit of getting used to - and now that we're all used to it, I've found it keeps the whole band 'heads up' to the congregation rather than eyeballing the MD to see what's happening next.

Out the front, the priority is to draw as little attention to the stage and I feel the MD mic does facilitate this very well.

Glad you got to be there Teleworshipkid, fab pressie from the olds!

I saw Hillsong United in concert back in August of this year, and they were great. The only problem was that I didn't know all of the songs off of their newest album :( It was still a great concert though, fabulous musicians using their talent for the Lord!
