studysession December 6th, 2011, 02:08 PM Working in my CAD/CAM program and wanted the outline of a mandolin but the neck and insides of a TELE.
I am curious what people think of this design.
My CNC machine is down right now and should be back up and running around or after Christmas. Mean time I am working on some CAD/CAM designs of what I might make next.:rolleyes:
Jack Wells December 6th, 2011, 02:37 PM Personally, I'd like a thinner more Fender style F-hole. How many strings? Four, five, eight or the six in your rendering?
studysession December 6th, 2011, 02:58 PM It's a six string. Everything in the center is same as normal Tele, just the outside is different. As for the F-hole, I am thinking of putting a music not there.
Jack Wells December 6th, 2011, 03:02 PM What key will it be tuned to. Will the string relation be the same as a guitar. As you probably know a normal mandolin is tuned like a violin. G,D,A,E .
studysession December 6th, 2011, 03:08 PM Really didn't think about that one. :)
Figure it would be just like a guitar but shaped like a mandolin. So would tune it same as a 6 string guitar.
Jack Wells December 6th, 2011, 03:49 PM So it's to be a full size guitar shaped like a mandolin........... a mandotar or a guitarlin.
Bolide December 6th, 2011, 03:51 PM A mandotar.

YES!!! :) A full sized guitar shaped like a mandolin. :)
quaterstaff December 6th, 2011, 03:57 PM looking good
arakele December 6th, 2011, 04:00 PM got enough room for a bigsby....
studysession December 6th, 2011, 04:02 PM Thanks for the compliments. Can't wait till my CNC machine is up and running again so I can cut one of these out. :)
I have never mounted a bigsby before, but I think there is plenty enough room. :)
Buckocaster51 December 6th, 2011, 05:59 PM Aha!
You're building an Ibanez Custom Agent!

Sort of...
I think I have one of those upstairs.
Or at least the pieces of one.
kwerk December 7th, 2011, 04:19 AM I've always wanted to do this. The tight curl freaks me out tho. Guess it's the perfect job for a CNC.
F style mandos are such a pretty shape.

Not such a fan of a Bigsby on a small body (from an aesthetic standpoint, I'm sure they work fine ). This one would look cool LINK (http://www.guitarfetish.com/Vintage-Style-Surface-Mount-Whammy-Bar-Hofner-Vibrola-style_p_839.html) however, IMO

Love the Mando/Tele idea!!! That should be ultra cool. What colors are you considering?
I had one of those Custom Agents given to me by a friend for helping him move to a new apartment several years ago. After about 10 years of it sitting on a guitar stand in my music room and never being played I sold it to a collector in NJ for $750. (Mine was pretty unplayable but in a very rare color he told me) He had been looking for years to find the reddish burst that I had. It completed his collection. Very cool guitars that Ibanez started building right after Gibson started threats of lawsuits for their other Les Paul style guitars.
Here is a photo of my buyers completed collection of Custom Agents....
studysession December 7th, 2011, 08:00 PM Not sure what colors yet. Right now I am just excited when my machine is up and running to cut it out.
Not saying I am going to, but this could be a cool cloth covered paisley type design.....

I'll be a three-toed sloth hanging upside down in a rainstorm! Never suspected they existed in any color than the one I posted.
Thanks for giving me some education.
