what about Gallien-Krueger AMPS ????

well my deal fell true for a peavey TNT and so far for my 200.00$ or less budget Im not finding much.I did see one Gallien-Krueger amp a backline 115 seller says it play's well,any input on this type of amp....

I once had the Backline 210, which has the same pre amp section, same power without extension cab (180W) as the 115. In contrast to the 115, the 210 could have 300 Watts with an ext. cab ...

The Overdrive section of the 115/210 is rubish. The amp would be better without it. When you listen very carefully, you can also here a slight influence of the Overdrive section to the clean section. It's best to put all overdrive pots to zero ...

But the sound and the loudness of the 210 (even without ext. cab) were god! No "power wonder", but loud enough for a rehersal room and medium loudness ...
A very warm and punchy sound ...

In Germany we can get a cheaper 250 Watts Special Edition Ashdown 115 combo. It costs about the same as the Backline 115. To my mind, these two amps are the best you can get for low budget.
To my mind, better than the cheap Ampeg amps (BA115?).

I would pick the GK over the Peavey. Go for it if it is in good shape.

Agree here. I have the GK Backline 250 (I used to play bass a lot, now I rarely do). The overdrive channel is crap, but it is a very reliable amp. I use a 1X15 cabinet (also GK Backline) and have had zero problems out of it. Disclosure: I never used the overdrive much. We did classic rock/blues/country. I don't know how this rig would work for metal/hardcore. Probably ok with a 4X10 cabinet to get better high end?

The Overdrive is great when you play Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My My". :lol:
I think the original "bass distortion" is made by a Moog???

I never play the bass distorted. Be interesting to hear a guitar throught the overdriven GK

One of my old bandmates had a 2x10 200w GK amp and it was quite nice. I'd definitely take that over a Peavey.

The little I tried them I wasn't crazy about it. Leans more toward a brassier treble sound than I like. But if that's your thing, then great.

Personally, I'd take a Peavey any day over a Backline. YMMV.

The Backline, as FirstBassman points out is sort of an "entry level" amp. perfectly acceptable, if you like the way it sounds. Looking long term, and if Bass Playing is earning you some money, you'll want to upgrade to some more pro level equipment, as the backline may not be reliable when used heavily, as that's not really what they're made for.
G & K is otherwise excellent gear, I've been gigging with an old 800rb and more lately a 700rb, the 800 was getting a bit scratchy around the controls, but otherwise functional.

I've done it. Use the bridge pickup and it sounds totally evil!

Gk makes a good product. I would say go for it

I'm not a fan of the way GK amps (especially their cheap ones) color the tone.

Some people really like them for their middy "punch" (they were very trendy in the 90s for that reason), but they don't suit me well at all.

But they do have a reputation for solid, well-made gear, so if you like the sound I would say pull the trigger.
