twintwelve December 1st, 2011, 04:45 PM It is indeed possible for the thrifty musician to get into the bass bidness for very low bux. My wife bought me this recent manufacture, Squier J-bass for $200, in like new condition for my birthday last month at the legendary Atomic Music in Beltsville, MD. It is a great sounding and playing bass that stays in tune. I bought this Behringer Ultrabass 3000, 300w, 1x15, two channel combo on Washington DC CL for $125 from a kid who got it for his birthday in Feb., and never even plugged it in! It is a loud, portable, and tonally versatile amp that can cover ANY stage that I'll ever play! I set in the bass department for life for a total of $325!!http://www.tdpri.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=104029&stc=1&d=1322775909
firemedic December 1st, 2011, 06:36 PM Nice! I'm building my own tube bass head and I shudder to think what I have spent so far on CL speakers, cabs, etc. I don't even have the bass guitar yet!
Plus my wife would never get me a bass in a billion years!
fenderslaper December 1st, 2011, 07:15 PM Sweet! That's a whole lotta bass fun for $325!
twintwelve December 1st, 2011, 07:57 PM yeah it is, plus I've already made my money back twice playing fill-in bass gigs. Really a great bargain priced bass; those Duncan Designed J-bass p'ups sound fantastic. We truly live in the Golden Age of cheep gear...........
flag72 December 1st, 2011, 11:09 PM thats the kind of thread I love inexpensive rigs that play's well.if everything goe's as plan my total investement will be 400.00$ for an Ibanez Jet king Bass 250.00 and peavey TNT 130 for 150.00 all in great condition:wink:
Tim Armstrong December 2nd, 2011, 12:29 AM Sweet!
Keep your eyes open for a spare bass amp, though, as the Behringer amps are made to hit a price point and so are, well, made quite cheaply. Not to say that it WILL fail, but there's a slightly higher chance than with more ruggedly built stuff.
Of course, one of the corollaries to Murphy's Law is that stuff usually breaks only when there's no spares...
Tim
SamClemons December 2nd, 2011, 06:42 AM One of the common problem with those Behringer amps is too much power for the speaker. Be carefull not to crank it by accident. But.....if you blow the speaker, that just gives you an opportunity to put a better one in it.
Telenator December 2nd, 2011, 06:47 AM Sweet!

Eloquently stated. The keyboard player in my band used a lot Behringer gear and lets just say, he had his repair tech on speed dial.
twintwelve December 2nd, 2011, 02:42 PM Gosh, Behringer stuff is cheap? Boy, I guess I better be more careful next time! MY BAD!!!!

Don't sweat it.
I played one of those amps for a couple years daily.
I needed something I could leave and not be a big loss if it were stolen or damaged as I was playing 2-1.5 hour shows per day.
It actually sounded pretty darn good once I dialed it in.
When I left the show it was still there.
I sold it to the guy who replaced me.
He still has it.
Aside from a speaker swap, it's still going strong.
twintwelve December 2nd, 2011, 07:50 PM Gosh-my sarcasm valve must be going bad.......
Telenator December 2nd, 2011, 09:36 PM LOL! Sarcasm sure is tough in plain text!
TeleTim911 December 2nd, 2011, 09:55 PM If you want a bass amp that will last until your grand kids graduate college, get a Peavey. Just my opinion.
losergeek December 7th, 2011, 10:18 AM I have complete confidence in my bass setup which includes my Fender black label jazz bass that I got for 200$ on ebay as well as my wife's Ampeg BA115 which we picked up for 280$ on craigslist. 480$ total, a little more then 325$ but it's more than just an entry level setup - it's been my setup for 2 years and I don't see it changing anytime soon.
Manolete December 7th, 2011, 06:21 PM Amazing rig... glad to see a fellow bassist who sees you don't need to turn up to a smaller gig with an SVT...
At more than a handful of gigs in my old band I played through no amps at all, just pedals -> EQ pedal -> DI. With flatwound strings I got a lot of good tone if the sound system was up to the job (usually is here at least).
Old Cane January 6th, 2012, 12:08 PM Gosh-my sarcasm valve must be going bad.......
No, it's not. I smelled the sarcasm right off. Got to remember most on this forum are bass players. What doesn't go over their heads?
FMA January 6th, 2012, 12:14 PM No, it's not. I smelled the sarcasm right off. Got to remember most on this forum are bass players. What doesn't go over their heads?
Yes. Remember, when you post on the bass forum to type slowly and loudly so they can understand...
Sorry...couldn't resist...

Bass player in my band used to have one of these, got it when they first came out in like...2007.
The thing sounded BETTER than his american jazz bass, no lie. He took to using it all the time
kbraker January 10th, 2012, 11:49 PM I can relayed. This past Christmas I got a Peavey millenium bxp and a few sets of strings from my b.i.l and his family. A week later I went to guitar center where they price matched an acoustic b100 amp that musicians friend had on sale for $149. Not to shabby
bendecaster January 23rd, 2012, 02:57 PM I'm with Tim A and TeleTim911 both. Our band had that same Behringer bass amp and it lasted about 4 1/2 years, which was cool for what we invested. Just at that time, lucky for me, a local music store was having a going out of business sale and I picked up a Peavey Tour TNT combo for $399(no-tax in NH). We are set now methinks until my fingers fall off.

My Behringer Guitar amp (virtube 100 watt) has held up OK for two years. Except the input jack. The amp is actually being repaired as it needs a new one.
