New Studio - Zoom R16 Good Starter Recorder?

Decided to record my genius for posterity and demos. Seriously looking at a Zoom R16 as my best option for practical reasonably priced new studio build, any experience or alternative suggestions appreciated. Requirements:

New to recording.
Want to mic guitar amp to Recorder, not DI.
Solo projects, so layering and mixing tracks individually.
If DI Guitar and Bass, need pre-amp (recommendations?)
Click audible on headphones or seperable from track.
Insertion of drum tracks?
Good interface?
Like prospect of tweaking track on PC, best App?.

Probably (assuredly) some newb Q's and assumptions, but your patience and guidance appreciated..... did comprehensive search and read of previous threads.... just looking for some reassurance and/or personal experience.

Thanks, TM.

I have the older HD16 model. Its pretty good for a stand alone device. You can do everything within the unit and you have the option of doing mixing in Cubase on your PC. It also functions as an interface for various DAWs. I highly reccomend you read the manual and keep it close. There are buttons that perform various functions.

Everything you want to do you can do with the Zoom. I think it comes with Cubase LE.
Check the website and see what DAW's are compatible.

Thanks V

Since no one has raised any major objections , and it seems to cover those functions I need - an R16 it will be.

Now I need a programmable drum synth!

Now I need a programmable drum synth!

There are several out there to choose from.
Some come with patches that need tweaking to fit in the mix.
Regarding drum software, I would only recommend you try the 'demos' available first before you buy (along with the tips from others here).

Me...being a drummer in the past....still do my own drums on the (now antiquated) Roland MBD1 Bass/Drum module.

I use Cakewalk Sonar 5.0PE (used Cakewalk since 1992) for my recording interface but per previous post the R16 purchase may take care of that necessity even if it doesn't come with Cubase LE.

Good luck on your quest....carry on.

I use the r16 and ez drummer. The r16 is pretty good for the price. I can't seem to get mine to work as an interface tho. I just import the files.

I'd be happy to help with anything as you get started with it. Just pm me

Cheers!
