Answer a Question for me?

I picked up a CV Strat about 2 weeks back.
I looked on the back of the neck where the S/N is
and there was a brown tape with a number on it
placed over the space for the S/N.
When I peeled back the tape there was a S/N on
the guitar but the last 3 numbers had actually been
dug out of the wood.
So I got curious and did some research. Some of the
CV's had a normal number on wood, others not.
Here is a pic of which I am talking about:

Here is the ebay site of a guitar with a like sticker
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-Classic-Vibe-50s-Strat-Neck-W-Tuners-Fender-Stratocaster-/300626651570?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item45febea9b2

Look at the pic of the back of the head.

So, am I being ripped off?

My guesses would either be that there was a goof up in the factory that they fixed or it's hot. If there are several on eBay by different sellers however I would say that it's factory.

that is a factory second- it should be significantly discounted from the price of a new factory first CV.

First, thank you both for responding to my question.
Second, the guitar IS a factory second, was sent to a company called MIRC that works out of Franklin Tenn. They buy these guitars from Fender, fix the problem, and then sell them to dealers at a greatly reduced cost.
So now I have to contact the seller and sort this out with him. I HATE dishonesty.
Thanks again you guys.
