"Beat Up" MIJ '72 RI from sometime between '88-92, I think... or you can call it "stage relic'ed," I guess... when I got it in '01 it and the tweed case it came in looked band new. Now they look a little rough... but they came about it from honest heavy gigging and traveling for a few years. I joined an alt-country-ish indie band in '01 and had that Custom sound in my head for it. I knew tons of people who'd picked up originals for $100 in the 80s when they were unfashionable (along with Jassmasters and Jaguars) and had borrowed those a lot. The MIM re-issues had come out but - though they're cool - they neither felt (different neck profile, thicker and heavier bodies on some) nor sounded much like the originals to me, and Radiohead had re-popularized the originals so they were too expensive. A friend had a MIJ that was a lot closer that I borrowed for a while until I could track down this one, which a guy had only played in his house since he got it. It spends a lot of time in open G tuning these days. I will have to re-fret it eventually and would like to put some jumbo frets on it.
