MXR Custom Badass Modified OD (http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/m77-modified-od)

Looks pretty cool, anyone had a chance of trying one out yet? The 100Hz control does seem neat.

Pretty nice. I have the Custom Bad Ass 78 distortion pedal and I'm really happy with it.

Seems like a knob to either cut bass or boost it (Im assuming but not sure from guitar>amp flat EQ) is a good idea as this goes hand in hand with how much Drive/Gain you are using, specific to the kind of music played....seems like a good idea to help sculpt a less generic tone, (don't mean this is a bad way, I like Tube Screamers just fine!), or perhaps I should say more individual tone, out of a TS-type OD.

If the distortion was a modified DS-1, then the OD is probably the same; a modified Boss OD.

Think it is perhaps an MXR-sized take on the Way Huge (also a Dunlop product) Green Rhino Mkll- which itself is a modded- Tube Screamer type OD. Both have this same Bass (100hz) shaping feature. Dunlop can wisely market the same basic pedal (I know they are not identical) to the MXR lovers and the more boutique (whatever you wanna call it) users. The prices on both pedals are close and they seem like great pedals- Win Win???

Heard the demo with the same guy James from the last video with the 78 and it sounds a little harsh. Maybe cause he wasn't using a Vox? Just google it or go on the MXR website. I cant wait to try it though.

So is it more on the 808 side or 9 side of a TS? Because those are definitely two different animals altogether.

I've been wondering if this is MXR's take on the Xotic bb preamp. Here are some descriptions straight from the mxr/dunlop site:

"Classic overdrive circuit modded for improved performance and versatility.
100HZ cut and boost control allows tonal fine-tuning.
BUMP switch engages alternate voicing for a low and mid-range boost. True Bypass."

If this is capable of being used as both a clean boost and has more gain on tap than a typical TS than I suppose anyone looking for a cheaper(100.00 less) alternative to the Xotic BB preamp are in luck.

I really want to try one through my AC15. I think it would rock.

Now that I've took the time to A/B clips of the new MXR OD and the Xotic BB preamp, I see not much similiarity between these 2 pedals at all.

Still waiting to receive mine. It shipped the 28th so I would think I would have it this week. I'm hoping it will kick my TS-9 off the board so I can send the TS to be modded!

Just got mine yesterday. In short words - I LOVE IT!

It definitely has the Green Rhino in it's blood, as well as the Tim IMO. With the bump off it's very clear and transparent and very Tim/Timmy-ish. With the bump on it really gets into the TS or TS-like OD with a heap of mids but also MXR adds a bit of bass in too with the 100hz knob which most TS pedals lack. You can find that on the Green Rhino (Way Huge) reissue too. It's even in the same brushed aluminum look as the Green Rhino reissue. IMO it's the pedal to get if you want more versatility than a Rhino or just a smaller Rhino. It's really very versatile and has tons of output and gain on tap. I can barely get the output level more than 1/4 of the way up.

This is my board and you can see my settings on it. I do run it mainly with the BUMP on in Tubescreamer mode so keep that in mind as obviously the pedal is off in this pic.

What a great collection of dirt boxes.

Thanks! This is my main "big gig" board I use for tribute band gigs where I need to recreate studio tones "exactly" and need a wide variety of textures, flavors, and tones. I'm in the process of building a smaller grab n' go board for my side projects, jams, and rehearsals. It's a very fun board. It's almost done - just waiting for a Carbon Copy delay and it will be completely. I don't use modulation, just varieties of gain, slapback delay, and compression. :)
