So...I finally decided to attempt a trade in at GC. I had a Yamaha APX900 that I never really bonded with....quite frankly, it sucked to play and the tone was horrendous. I also wanted a smaller acoustic that could be taken anywhere, and ended up getting a 350 buck trade in value for the Yamaha. I paid about 420 brand new at GC prob...4 years ago.
So I ended up picking out a nice sounding Martin LXM including a soft case.
I think I made out pretty good, and took home 85 cash to boot. Not a bad deal. Pretty stoked. New gear day and didn't have to spend anything!

And....took that pos back. Those little Martins absorb any tone they could possibly create with the laminate material they use to build them.
Got myself a Baby Taylor thank you very much. Travel size, and has much better sound than the reg size Yamaha I had...action is nearly perfect, intonation spot on and projects out very well.

I owned a full size laminate martin once. Was pretty much a cardboard box. Get 600 bucks for them only because they say martin on the headstock, and thats the only thing Martin about them! I think you made a wise exchange. Good luck

I like the lxm for its size but I agree that it does not sound very good

Yep. It's to bad though. I wanted a Martin. The LX series guitars are really high quality and I would imagine very durable.
Edit...now I'm gonna have to get another Baby Taylor. Just found out they have it with a mahogany top.

I've got a Baby I keep at work that is worth it's weight in gold for the anti-stress relief it provides me...not to mention the tons of practice I get in that wouldn't otherwise happen..the Baby has a really nice neck shape that for me is it's strong point...it sounds fine for what it is but needs tuning fairly frequently...
I've also got a Martin LX1 that I bought a couple months back...again this guitar has a really comfortable neck shape (nice handfull, not flat at all and very easy to play) I find the Martin sounds a fair bit better than the Baby and stays in tune far longer...for the money if I had to buy one or the other new...Martin...for sure
now here is the real gold for small bodied "travel" guitars ..Taylor GS Mini...
no comparison...and worth every dollar IMHO....check them out before you buy another Baby flyingbanana....you will be assimilated ...

I did try one of those, and I agree 100%. Those mini's are really good sounding. I just had to have a small go to acoustic this time around. Next time...next time. As my wife sits here saying, "here we go again."

Honestly, I was going to trade up again to the GS Mini, but I'm having so much fun with the Baby Taylor, because of it's size and that just makes it so much more possible to bring with me to the shop. I'm glad to finally have an acoustic that I can relate to. I really recommend this guitar as a second practice guitar for anyone needing one. The sound!
