Forgive the vague question, but could anyone who has had a Tele with a Strat neck pickup installed characterize the middle position? Is it pretty much the same as with a 'regular' Tele neck pickup?
Thanks!

Here is a soundclip of my Tele with a Duncan Broadcaster in the bridge and a Fender American Series Strat Neck pickup in the neck position.
Its made of ash with a maple neck, callaham bridge with brass saddles (if that matters)
I recorded it plugging the output jack of my Tele directly in the sound card so it doesn't sound good but you can still "understand" what it sounds like.
The mp3 is: bridge position first, then neck position, then both in parrallel, then both in series.

I hope this helps you a bit (I'm no good at describing sounds with words)

I have a JD Tele that's had a few different pickups in it. I'd say it generally sounds slightly fuller than the typical middle position, but it's not overly dramatic. It seems (for me) more notable when playing twangy bass string runs.

Everything that I've read for using Strat pups in the neck position of a Tele, is to use the middle pup out of an A/S Strat . . . I keep toying with the idea, but that would leave me with a black (uncovered) neck pup in a cream/black/cream pickguard that I have now a Tex-Sp Tele pup in, but I guess I could switch to a black/cream/black pickguard, so it would blend it better.
I have no idea what it would sound like, but am willing to do a switch, as I am always screwing around with my Partscaster!
Now if I could only find a Strat player who swapped out his pups and has a A/S set laying around for cheap $$$.

i ran a fralin strat neck pickup, but the strings didn't line up with the polepieces. make sure of alignment before you buy.
