I recently posted a classified ad here. I'm trying to sell a American Deluxe Strat. Someone has contacted me through e-mail and basically stated that they were not concerned about the price or condition of the guitar, and they want to pay me through paypal and just have their own shipping agent come by my home and pick up the guitar so I won't have to be concerned or bothered with shipping the guitar myself. They want my real name, my paypal address, as well as my phone number. They claim to be working offshore and want to buy the strat as a gift for their Dad. Their english is somewhat broken and the wording is scattered about and even hard to read at times. Clearly not an american with good english. The e-mail address that was used to contact me is jexbristar@gmail.com

This was first e-mail I got from buyer

American Deluxe Strat, NICE!

I am using this medium to notify you of my interest in purchasing your American Deluxe Strat which i will like to ask some few question

still available for sale ?
What is the asking price ?
What is the condition?
Has this involved in any damage before?
do i need to repair?

I would like to pay using PayPal,After payments has been made i will arrange for pick up of the American Deluxe Strat as soon as possible, will you let my pick-up agent to come to you house for the pick up? Because i don't want you to worry yourself about the shipment.

Regards

This is the second e-mail I got from buyer

I really appreciate your respond,I am an oceanographer and am
currently at sea at the moment, I located in pacific WA, and i want
you to know that am okay with the guitar status and also the
conditions of the guitar and the asking price as well, I am buying the
guitar as a gift for my Dad as a surprise for him,he wont know
anything about the guitar until they get delivered to him, i can only
pay through pay pal as i don't have access to my bank account on-line
as i don't have internet banking, but i have my bank account attached
to my pay pal account and this is why i insisted on paying you through
pay pal, kindly get back to me with your pay pal details if you don't
have PayPal account yet,it is very easy to set up at your bank and get
it set up,after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address
you use for registration with PayPal so as to put the money through so
i can proceed with the payment and after the payment has been done, i
have a pick up agent that will come around for verifications and to
pick the guitar after i have made the payments for the guitar. So I
will need you to provide me with the following information to
facilitate the making of the payment.

1.Your PayPal full name.
2.Your PayPal Email Address.
3..Your phone number.

Once again ,I will like you to know that you will not be responsible
for shipping. I will have my pick-up agent come over as soon as you
have receive the payment confirmation.

Regards.

That Oceanographer has been at sea a long time. I remember reading that story 2 years ago.

Hi yes. We posted about this earlier: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/forum-problems-issues/296198-possible-scammer-classifieds.html.

This person was banned immediately when discovered.

I know it's not helpful, but his initial email was full of scammer clues. When selling on the web, unfortunately, sellers have to be aware that this happens all the time and be savvy to these clues.

pacific washington trivia

On January 8, 2009, the Army Corps of Engineers released water from Mud Mountain Dam into the White River. The action was done to relieve pressure in the reservoir, which had reached its capacity due to heavy rain that was causing flooding around the Puget Sound region. A large amount of water was released very quickly, causing rapid and massive flooding in Pacific. Those affected had virtually no notice of the impending disaster. One of those affected by the flooding was noted local and international musician Jerry Miller, a founding member of Moby Grape, who had recently moved to Pacific from Tacoma. Miller lost virtually all of his possessions, including over forty years of memorabilia from his music career.
