hey guys, im a student and iv joined a great church where im studying and they have heard i play guitar and are keen to let me play, problem is my nice gear is 4hrs away and to big for my Uni accomodation room. iv got my tele down here and an Orange micro crush (fantastic amp)

do i buy a DI box and bring some pedals down? they've offered to loan me an amp but im not 100% comfortable playing other peoples gear (bad experiences) or do i bite the bullet and buy a small but powerful amp e.g vox actv4/fender champ. im hoping it wont come to that as im fast running low on funds.

im willing to try anything, amp modellers/actual amps/amp simulation pedals/mac programs i can play though anything.

Take your Tele and your Orange and give it a go. If it works, great. If not, then maybe take them up on the loaner offer until you can get your good stuff.

Here's the cheapest way to getting decent sound into the desk, that I know.

Your guitar > Danelectro Transparent Overdrive > Behringer Ultra-G DI.

I can't personally vouch for the Bad Monkey, but that has a mixer output.

I use a POD XT Live, but why not just take your amp and mic it?

Go with what you've got and see how it goes and what you might need from there...or maybe just take an acoustic. If you acquire anything, pick up a DI, like a Whirlwind. They're cheap and tough. I'd expect them to be able to at least mic your amp though.
Bring in the other stuff as you need it.

pawn shop and newspaper ads... equipment is available for short funds... I know.
A used modeler will get you goin' IF your willing to tweak the knobs some. Lots of folks don't like em' tone wise... but most of them have EQ... direct box straight in works, especially if you are used to a nice clean guitar sound. Me? I split my signal with an A/B box after my pedals, one side to the board, and one side to my little V5 amp. Its like my own monitor with just a bit more grit in the backround of the sound of the whole band.
