Zexcoil Tele Bridge Prototype #1

Hi all. This is my first thread in the Tele vendors forum, but it's just the beginning...

These are still a couple of months out, as I'm still sourcing some parts and waiting for others.

This is literally the first T-type pickup we have built at Zexcoil, but everything we learned making the S-types gave us a good head start on this one.

It's on the hot side (I'm still waiting for some stuff to make the "vintage" output), but it is designed with an AlNiCo 3 tonality and I think it sounds pretty good. Of course, like all Zexcoil pickups, it is extremely quiet. Note the silence in between the huge power chords at the end of the video.

It's installed in my 2001 American Deluxe Telecaster with the standard electronics. I'm playing through a Zinky Superfly and using an RC booster and a Maxon compressor on the cleaner (not really clean, though) stuff. The compressor was off on the more overdriven stuff at the end.

Sounds good!

How much will it go for?

I always like to try new pups.

They'll most likely be around $115.

I'm still sourcing some parts and doing some manufacturing development, so it isn't all locked down yet, but I think it'll be pretty close to that number.

I installed the first vintage output AlNiCo3-voiced prototype this weekend and it sounds fantastic (my ears are ringing more than usual today!).

I'll try to get some video up this week.

I should have these pickups available in the next month or so. Of course they are all very quiet, as is every pickup we make, due to our humcancelling design.

In the mean time, here's some more video:

There are three Tele bridge pickups here, one video dedicated to each. I've got the same Zexcoil Strat-style Vintage Single 5 in the neck throughout.

This first one is the Vintage T3+. This pickup is voiced like a slightly overwound AlNiCo3. Plenty of twang and a little girth and nice milky chime in the bridge/neck position:

I think this one is my favorite out of the three. This is a Fat T3. It has the same AlNiCo 3 voicing as the Vintage T3+ but it is much fatter (higher inductance). It still twangs, but also rocks very hard. The beautiful chime in the in between positions is maintained. I'm doing a show this weekend where we'll be performing Physical Graffiti and I'm going to use this set-up on Houses of the Holy (bridge) and Kashmir (bridge/neck):

The third one is the Fat T. The voicing of this pickup is really not analogous to any of the AlNiCo alloys, but a good reference would be something like a very hot AlNiCo5. This is the highest inductance design of the three. It doesn't twang quite as much as the Fat T3, and almost gets in to humbucker territory with gain. Even so, the milky chime is still there in the neck/bridge position. These fatter pickups sound almost Gretsch-y to me on the in between settings:
