Howdy from Johnboy...

I am going to have Sweetwater rebuild the innerds of my mint 85 Japan Tele. Since I am a bit of an ignoramoose, I wanted someone's opinion besides theirs of what to use as far as pickups go. I am aware of most of the options, but I am leaning toward S1 switching because I loved it on the Bajas.. But the noise in my *** Tele my biggest problem!

Sweetwater is telling me to go with noiseless for S1 switching...

I have noticed that because of the single coils as it is in it's present state, the modulation and background noise is overwhelming when cranking my hot rod deluxe with my Baber small fry.. I would love for it to be quiet. I am primarily playing in the studio, not much gigging right now...

Also, what is up with 4 way switching. I know how S1 works, but not 4way, and if so what would be a good match thereand what does 4way do with the pickups? . I really think I am going to stick to Fender parts, but I am open minded... Sweetwater also highly reccomended the custom shop Texas Specials for other applications, but again what about the noise.

Please don't refer me to another post, I may never find it, and I need help!

This is a huge investment for a poor guy!

I really have lost faith in TDPRI. I have noticed that many newbies looking for help have had dozens of reads and no responses. Again I see it happening to others, not just me.
People are looking for help, encouragement, some attention, especially from whomever is in charge of the forum.... Where are the experienced people who read people's questions, and know they could give advice, but instead go on looking for something else that rings their bell. I know just enough to help myself make a good decision. I hope someone else reads this and makes an effort to help the people that are asking for it, and not just pick up the newspaper and read the sports section.

Blessings to the two guys who responded to my questions about the ashtray bridge cover, and the one guy who commented about my song. I thank you. God bless the rest of you, you are gonna need it.

Hey man. Cool yer jets.

If you go with noiseless there's no real need for the S1 or four way. Try the Dimarzio Area T's.

you had me at mint 85 japan tele
depending exactly what this mint 85 japan tele is I'd be inclined to leave it as is maybe.
if noise is your prime reason for the switch has your tele been shielded with some copper tape?
$10 & half an hour ...

I have the CS Texas Specials with a 4way switch...I went with 250k CTS pots and a .047 cap...I tried a .022 cap but found it to be a bit bright for me personally...and it is of course a matter of personal taste Im sure..I really like the extra position on the 4way switch..mine is set up
1-B
2-B+N parallel
3-N
4-B+N series(like a Humbucker)
The Texas Specials come with a seperate ground for the neck pick up cover, which you need for the 4way switch and are RW for hum canceling I believe, I know mine are very quiet. Oh and I added a .001 cap to the volume for a "treble bleed"
I like the pickups and the switch.
good luck
