I have tried to search "nut" in the forums, both in titles only and all posts, and it always says no results found. But obviously the word "nut" appears in numerous titles and posts. Any ideas why this would happen? At first I thought it was too broad, but other extremely broad terms bring back results.

The forum's own search engine ignores short words (3 letter or less? Or is it 4?) to avoid matching common words like "and" and "the", but this backfires on "nut".
Go to Google and search for
site:http://www.tdpri.com/forum nut
that will restrict the search for "nut" to the given site.

As a younger and sillier man (couple of months ago) I naively attempted to use the TDPRI search engine as if it had "natural language" capability.
It gave me a dialogue box advising me that it would not return posts with the word "tone" as "tone" is too general a term.
Fair enough.
So I began to read the threads it returned.
It returned every thread in the TDPRI archives that contained the word "the".....
BigDaddyLH is right: Go to google, go directly to google......

You don't even need to do that. Just click the search tab, and there is a google search for the site right there.

words of 3 characters or less are not indexed.
one nice thing about going to google and using the site: qualifier is that you can restrict the search to subforums. this will search only in the bad dog cafe, looking for the word zombie.

looks like posts in this section can't be edited. anyway, i played around a little and i now believe words of 4 characters or less are not indexed.
you can use the * wildcard to find any words starting with nu, for example, by searching for nu*. this may put a burden on the system, however.

Some words are used so frequently, that they are excluded. "guitar" "strings" "nut" those kinds of words are excluded from search. Otherwise they would swamp the search engine because of how frequently they are used here.
We're constantly on the prowl for a way to improve our search. A promising new search tool was released last year and even though it was very expensive we thought we'd adopt it, but the company stopped development and it is no longer available.
At present the best solution is to use the Google site search function.

By the way -- editing is only possible for 24 hours after you've posted in all our forums. So, it's not due to the forum you're in.

thank you for the information. i think it's very cool that you take the time to stay on top of the issues and respond as you do. i don't belong to a lot of message boards, but i haven't seen this level of attention before. it's responsive and considerate.
btw, sorry about the goofy zombie post in this forum. i didn't realize all the messages here were forwarded to you.
