I'm drawing a blank. Do songs about loss and obsession qualify?

On the Prince tip:

If I'm going Henley, I guess I should include this one, too:

skulls, yeah, I think they do... great selections btw.

when I listen to music while working I feel like a polished flat stone skipping across a really really quiet, flat lake... each memory touching down just for a few moments... lingering and moving on... when I finish and get up to do the next thing.. and turn the music off... it is as though a ton of time has passed in a blur...

faces, textures, memories, loss, love, lust, funny things, sadnesses... all some rich mixture... probably why we love music beyond just the rhythm.

Really, this one says it all:

Re: "Dancing with Myself." I asked an ex-girlfriend to dance with me for that song at a high school dance. She accepted. Today, I'm married to a woman who is a big Billy Idol fan. What's it all mean, Alfie?

I'm going to go outside the box on this one. The Dave Matthews Band song is easily the dirtiest song I've ever heard.

Another tune about obsession and loss. I feel like a stalker.

This thread makes me realize that I probably didn't listen much to contemporary pop/rock music in the 80's 0r 90's ... With a few exceptions, I hardly know any of these songs.

Part of the fun... if you find some songs that are totally new to you... it is a gift!

My wife loves this one:

I always liked this one. I guess this isn't a love song after all. Oh well.

Let me stick with the nineties and left of the dial (Meaning Alternative)

I'll start with Blur and Graham Coxon's tele growling on this song about the break up between Damon Albarn and his then girlfriend for 11 years Justine.
dgA_DlR8WsM
Albarn admitted that during the recording of this song he frequently bursted into tears.

Equally British, here's Pulp with one of my favorite ballads of all time.
Skdjcv9Pbwo

Can't have a topic like this without Sonic Youth with assistance of Pixies' bass mistress Kim Deal guesting.
fJWJcSTPNpM

I remember people calling Smashing Pumpkins to be the Nineties' Pink Floyd, this song shows what that comparison was based on.
TI9Uybh6DdU

Prior to their monster hit "Missing" Everything but the girl had been a slow selling eighties pop duo, they got their second break however by collaborating with trip-hop act Massive attack on this spacey little number.
Epgo8ixX6Wo

Gotto include The Jayhawks, I'm sure we all wonder "where have all my friends gone, they've all disappeared."
JUItuwc0Ew4

I always loved this Alanis Morisette song, too bad that a lot of dance and techno artists agreed with me and absolutely slaughtered that song.
FjTB6EG3xGo

Irish pride in dark days, here are the Cranberries.
G6Kspj3OO0s

And from the UK, it's the band from Gwen Stephani's husband: Gavin Rossdale's Bush.
pU6KhFWvKPM

And I'll end with the Eels.

Dang, Blazer, I've never heard that version of Protection. I love it. That must be the original. All I've ever heard was the Eno remix on this cool late-90s electronica comp for charity called "Planet Electrica Protection." Seek it out if you can, awesome 2-CD comp of where electronica was at that time. I really dig your version, though, very cool.

For some reason, not so much embedding allowed on my favorite 90's love songs. Hope you'll click the links anyway...this is the soundtrack to my high school years right here...

Velvet Crush: My absolute favorite band in the world my sophomore year of high school. Yes, I was a lonely boy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wyh3mhXd6Hk&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL0AF7EF5C83D6CEF3

Hayden! Yes, this one's also a little creepy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiDbMmeDlQM&feature=relmfu

Lou Barlow. This one's just a shade on the heartbreaking side.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dg_guL9L-jE&feature=related

And this one I'll link to, since there's a cuss word in the title. I actually think this is one of the best love songs, or rather, wanting love but not having it songs, ever.
