Hey guys in search of the perfect amber (yes I know) I have just stripped a neck for the second time and was wondering if there are any tricks to getting rid the build up of stain in the seam along the frets?

I have been using lacquer thinner which works great but I still seem to have a dark line along the frets

Thanks

Did you dye the wood directly?

Did you use a tac cloth to ensure all the microscopic dust particles were off the fretboard before you stained it? Wiping it with a rag (even with solvent) will not always get the smaller particles in the crevices, which will absorb more pigment that lacquer thinner may not remove. You might need a stronger solvent or a bleach, but first I'd try lacquer thinner and an old toothbrush - one of the refinisher's basic "not in a textbook " tools.
