I always recommend the TC electronics nova repeater. I have had one for several months, and I absolutely love it. You can get any sound you need out of it. Any TC electronics delay is great.

What's your price range and what are you using it for?

- If you want a basic, good sounding delay for reasonable $$$, the MXR Carbon Copy is a great no-nonsense delay. The Ibanez DE-7 sounds good but is a little flimsy. The AD-9 RI is not cheap but worth it at 115% of the price.

- If you want to do more with delay (looping, Edge-type soundscapes, etc.), the Boss DD-20 is an excellent delay with 4 storage spaces and the ability to input super-precise delay times. The TC Electronic Nova Repeater has been getting some great reviews, as is the Flashback (cheaper, and has a smaller footprint).

Stratburst is asking the right questions. Depending on the answers there are some great options out there (my opinions, not facts).

1. Basic delay: Carbon Copy (though I've found I need a buffer after mine to maintain signal strength).
2. Delay with tap (or 'strum') tempo: TC Flashback - hands down best sound due to the 'Analog Through' setup. Lots of different delay types (including the pristine 2290) and the Toneprints are very useful - PGS has a special running through September for $139 [Coupon Code: Flashback]. I'm seriously considering buying a second. One other practical feature is the Flashback is 9V and I can run it on my normal power supply.
3. Delay with with presets and tap tempo: Having owned both the DD-20 and the Nova Delay, I'll point out that the Nova Delay has a few differences that you might find helpful, but then again you might not:

A. Dynamic Delay mode (aka Ducking Delay - delay kicks in as your signal decays) I find this helpful when playing more rocking numbers where the guitar is driving the song.
B. Nine Presets plus Manual mode as opposed to the DD-20's four presets plus manual mode - you may need four or fewer - depends on your situation.
C. (and this is a really helpful feature for me) Global Tap Tempo - the Nova Delay allows you to configure each preset to either a specific tempo or whatever tempo is tapped in at the moment. What this allows me to do is switch between presets and not have to re-tap the tempo - really helpful on the fly. You may not need this, but I like it a lot.
D. Strum tempo - the Nova Delay allows you to set the tempo by holding down the Tap Tempo button and strumming your guitar. I can strum more accurately than I can pat my foot, so I use this exclusively. It mutes your guitar signal when you do it, so if I'm resetting tempo in the middle of the song (e.g., drummer speeds up), I will typically just use the tap and keep playing.

Again, not at all knocking the DD-20 as I found it to be a great pedal, but I like my Nova Delay more because of the features noted. Someone else may want to chime in with the counter argument (features the DD-20 has that the Nova Delay does not). The only ones that comes to me off hand are that the DD-20 has far more control over the Modulation settings (speed and depth), a built-in looper, more standard tap-tempo subdivisions and a jack for a separate tap tempo switch (the Boss FS-5U is highly recommended with the DD-20).

Can someone walk me through how to add external tap to my Nova Delay? Thanks.
