Hey Guys, I'm currently running through a vox tonelab st into my churches sound system. I am the worship leader and so i basicallly never play lead. I'm trying to upgrade from my multi fx tonelab to boutique effects.

right now i use a clean channel with echo and reverb, as well as an overdriven channel with a bit of echo and reverb. question is, will I be ok ruunning a good over drive and a good analog delay? I was thinking for overdrive, OCD, JHS charlie brown, or Full drive2, and for delay i was thinking either carbon copy, malekko 616, or vfe blueprint.

also since i'll be performing live (rhythm) will i have a problem not having tap tempo? thanks!

Maybe I should go to church again - it sounds like fun.

I have tap tempo on my delay from T-Rex and wouldn't want to do without it in a worship setting.

I think you would be fine with any of those OD or delay pedals. I would personally recommend the full drive 2, but they are all solid; just find one you like.

As far as tap tempo, it all depends on what type of music you're playing. If you're playing upbeat songs and changing tempos a lot between songs, it would probably be good to have. But if you generally play the same style of songs every week, I think you would be ok without it.

What's wrong with your current tone?

I use a Boss DD7 with tap. I really like having tap tempo available - I occasionally like to do the whole dotted 8th thing and really want it to lock in ya know. And, well, sometimes my drummer's tempo isn't quite as consistent as my delay, so I just give a quick couple taps to lock back in with the new tempo. I've tried some more "boutique" delays, but have found I am really quite happy with the DD7. I am also the worship leader, and find it quite easy to tap in on the fly without having to look down or get distracted.

For overdrives, the Fulltone stuff is good. I've had the FD2 and still have the OCD. What amp are you planning to use? I am currently running direct through a Sansamp Liverpool (and am really happy with my tone right now!) and have found the overdrive pedals from Barber Electronics to be a perfect fit for me. Not only are they a work of art as far as build and tone go, but they also have internal tone adjustments (presence, bass... sometimes more) as well to help it work with your amp all the better.

thanks for the advice! i'm looking to run through a fender pro junior. theres nothing terribly wrong with my tone. but using the tonelab just doesn't match up well with my tele. there are very few combinations on it that i've been able to work a really great sound out of. also its kinda annoying that the switches are really up and down channel changers. so if i hit the wrong direction.e I'm on some obscur preset channel that i can't delete/ doesn't sound good. plus to tune you have to hit both of the foot switches at the same time. so i figured if I'm going to switch from my tonelab i might as awell get out of the world of multi effects!

Hey Guys, I'm currently running through a vox tonelab st into my churches sound system.

So your running it through a D.I before the console? or straight to the console? or from a mik'ed amp?

All those factors greatly change your overall tone.

If your using a fender pj, FWIW my pj takes in pedals very well (since its been modded with a fromel supreme mod and with a ragin cajun) BUT i think the fulldrive 2 sounds thin with a tele unless something with more balls goes after it. Good pedal to use as a booster.

Ahh okay my advice for the most noticable tone change is scrap the d.i and put your vox tonlabe to you pro junior and mic it (give it a try first and if you dont like the sound then get stomp boxes) that should sound alot better than the tinny sound when you put it through to the D.I.

OR you can get a tube pre amp those are pretty groovy to haha

Yeah, it wouldn't kill you. In fact, it may just do the OPPOSITE!

I don't use tap tempo, but I've always used echo and delay and naturally hear it and can adjust on the fly... so... if I was buying a NEW delay, it would have tap tempo on it. Easier to adjust, gives you more choices while playing. Check out the new pedal issue of Premier Guitar, has a good article on how to use delay. PG is also available online for free!
